    Hi TW,

I just took up a job as a marketing manager at a Heating and Plumbing Company. We are spending tons of money on advertising but have not had much success with it. Angies List is our #1 performer but we need more.

    Any ideas would be welcomed.

    Thnx.

Have you explored any possible cross marketing with local utility companies? How about any promotional offers? Do you have any social media exposure?

We do offer promotional coupons through Angies List and have social media exposure through facebook, etcetera. I just signed up for an account with constant contact and am excited at the prospect of starting an emailing campaign which would include promotional coupons.

We have very few professional utility companies that we refer to our customer because we have been burnt in the past.

Ideally, we would like to find another site like angies list that caters more towards plumbing/hvac contractors.

We would also appreciate tips re: email marketing do's and dont's. I've read a lot of pieces online but nothing specific to plumbing/hvac.

Thanks ahead of time for any feeback.

There's a company in San Diego (not plumbing) that offers coupons/discounts to its customers for Yelp reviews and delivers deals through Facebook.

You could also offer a cash bonus to any past customer who gives you a referral to a job that results in another customer.

Some type of referral bonus program is definitely a great idea. I work in marketing for a natural gas public utility myself. We have pretty good relationships with lots of HVAC contractors ourselves since theyre an integral part of us gaining new customers.

I'd also look into local ad agency's and see if they can help. Also not sure how large of a marketing budget you have but giveaways (water heater, heating system, whatever) can be a great way to drive traffic to your website/social media sites and to gather email addresses.

Who do pretty well at gathering potential customer info at home shows as well. We'll usually have a sign up to win Home Depot gift cards or something.

Thanks for the tip. We've been trying to get our reviews up on yelp so that could really help.

Don't be an idiot. I'm asking for advice, not for you to do my job.

We're looking at implementing something similar to this through our direct mail marketing campaign. Where, for example, if someone were to purchase a coupon and then forward the deal to a friend or family member they would receive an additional 10% off, or something of the sort.
