That's kinda crappy! So if I'd have paid more up front for a truck that has DRLs that I would literally never have on as my headlights are on at all times, then my insurance would be less, because of a safety feature that for me would have zero influence on whether I got into an accident or not.

    How much was the difference?

I'm all for lights on all the time. I want every chance I can get against the crazy cat ladies in Forresters pulling out in front of me. It's easy for a vehicle to blend into the background if you take a quick look left, then pull out. Headlights on during the day, even bright sunny days, make your vehicle more likely to be seen during those "quick glances".

I'm definitely glad DRL's are required in Canada, there are so many people who don't turn their lights on when weather conditions are poor or it's starting to get dark out...hell some people don't even turn them on at night because they think if their speedometer is lit up their lights must be on as well. You can't say in those instances that DRL's don't make your car more noticeable and in turn safer for other people.

That's what they were made for, not for the times when lighting is perfect and you can see everything nice and dandy.

Yeah to me anyways there just isn"t any intelligent argument against the use of dtrl's,.....its like the same group of people that would likely argue against the use of seatbelts.

yeah. thats is true. everyone thinks what they want.

I wish i had the DTRL over the TPMS. i know how to check and see if my tires have enough air or not. don’t need a light to tell me that. I think it’s nice to have, but not needed.

I do not wish to debate the usefulness of DRLs, but OP should read this thread.:)

Edit: Also, we have two identical 2009 Tacomas at work. Both were purchased within a few months of each other. The one I drive has melted the turn signal lenses due to the DRL. The one my coworker drives has slightly more miles on it, but he drives around with the main headlights on all day, which turns the DRL off. The lenses on his truck are in perfect shape. The next mod should be how to make the main headlights come on as DRLs, without the tail lights or dimming the dash lighting. That would be the best of both worlds, I think.

I want to say it was 30-40 per 6 months.

There is a check list they go by and it has stuff they give discounts for.
Anti locks, air bags, DRL, and a few other things.
What they have done is now giving the same discounts for some items that are not stock as they did at one time for anti lock brakes that are no stock on most all....

It is just like an alarm in your house will save you $ and if you have fire coverage on the alarm then even more.

They do the same for jeeps from what some of my friends say.
Hard top will save you money vs soft as the money loss for a soft is more, damage, theft, loss........

I wish the tail lights came on with my DRL..

I usually just turn on my headlights.. It is required at the mine I work at so it is more or less habit now..

I usually click on the running / parking lights in the morning , that adds tail lights and front indicators on with the DRL lights

Not an option for those with HID retrofits, unless a "City Bulb" is added to the reflector.

    There are a few options:
Replace the 4157 with a 3157 lamp (slightly lower wattage)
Add a 1-Ohm resistor in series with the lamp (reduces current/wattage by about 20%)
Replace with an LED... not ideal because of the lack of an available electronic flasher, so a resistor or standard lamp is needed in parallel with the LED to prevent fash/flash.
