Outcast, how do you like that MI rail system? I have been looking at getting one of those for my 74.

Any recomendations on an AK, SKS or similar type gun in .308? I'm looking to build/restore and customize one and thought something like that would fit nicely between my 700 sniper rifle and my AR15. Not too familiar with these but any help would be great.

I'd check out the FAL, HK G3 or their cheaper cousins, the CETME. All battle rifles in 308. There is a 308 Saiga as well that you could convert back to an AK pretty easily (and legally).

I personally prefer mounting my optics off the receiver of the ak/sks platforms and not on the gas tube/hand guard/dust cover. More secure. Thats how im building my polish.

Along these lines the FAL is a good rifle but be wary of remakes as there are a ton that suck. The original FN FAL is the way to go if you can locate one. The HK G3 is a GREAT rifle. One more option I would add to the list would be an M1A (Springfield Armory) or M14 (lots of manufacturers). Great system.

Pic thread... here's a few of my Sako TRG's

I love my Ultimak rail and I have worked on enough guns over the years to tell you that it's VERY solid and I trust it 100%.

Thanks. It's a blast to shoot, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg to do so.
