According to the FBI study of all officer involved shootings in America in the last 30 years, police hit their intended targets with only 3% of bullets fired.

Police fire 100 bullets and 3 hit their targets.

Why would Dorner be concerned about print evidence ? Everyone knows its him. (unless someone else drove the truck there)

Scent can be picked up on the foot tracks a few feet from the truck.

If Dorner was concerned about evading tracking then why start a fire to draw attention to the location in the first place ?

Probably as a distraction. When they were removing the truck I believe they spotted him in San Diego about 100 miles south of Big Bear.

LOL @ the titan comment btw. The trail was a fire road i believe.

We can't answer these questions. We can assume that the truck was a diversion.
the fireball would give him time to do more surveillance or recon to his HQ.
The axle may have been broken for coming down the mountain.
I will not speculate on the Officers involved. I was not there.
That Blue Tacoma will be famous when this is all said and done.

So whats the law on this? If your innocent, and you feel your life is in danger are you allowed to defend yourself from law enforcement officer shooting at you?

I mean innocent, not just you thinking you did nothing wrong.

    There is no law.

However, a person always has the right to defend themselves.

Sadly, there are court cases that have held a citizen does NOT have the right to refuse an unlawful order given by police.

An example would be in California when open carry was legal police were arresting open carriers believing it was against the law.

Normally a person would consider that kidnapping. Normally you could use deadly force to prevent yourself from being kidnapped.

BUT.....court cases have held a citizen does not have the right to refuse an unlawful order given by police. You just have to pucker up and be a good subject.

I think that's a slightly different situation though then you returning fire in the event a cop just opens fire against you vs. you opening fire on a cop for what you feel is an unlawful arrest.

It may be wrong but this would be thrown out of court soo fast.. You would be arrested and charged with attempted murder on an officer..
