Looks cool man. You can also use unistrut mounted to trailer for tent.

If that were true, you wouldn't have long trailers.

By example, I have a three rail Kendon trailer for motorcycles. It's about the same length. Tows great.

As far as off road capability, the only comment I'd have is regarding the hitch. A pintle and ring is likely a better choice if you plan on taking the trailer on trails. This is because the pintle/ring allows more movement than the tongue and ball.

I like the idea of Unistrut for attaching the RTT. Good suggestion.

That can be a plus, but definitely not a must have feature. The benefits of having the track width and the distance from the rear axle to the trailer axle match is that the trailer will track exactly the same as the tow rig. This can be really nice by not having to worry about "spotting" the trailer as often becaus the theory is that if you can get the tow vehicle through an obstacle the trailer should come through just fine since it will follow the exact same path.

The more I've used my trailer the more I've realized that this part of designing a trailer is a good feature if it works with the rest of what you need from your trailer. But sometimes this can mean building a trailer that is too small (or sometimes too big) for what you need to carry or how you need to use it. And truthfully the only times that having those distances match is really important is when you are pulling the trailer through very technical terrain. And while that sounds all well and good, through experience I have found that having the trailer when driving through technical terrain is usually more of a liability than a benefit. If I know the trails I'll be on are more technical with lots of rockcrawling I am usually more hesitant to take the trailer. The trailer can handle it just fine, and I believe my truck can too, but the extra work involved is something to consider. Basically if you can do it without the trailer, you'll be better off.

So for 99% of us that use trailers off road, the vast majority of the trails we will be on are not so technical that they would require precise tongue length and wheelbase measurements. So differences in those measurements are not going to be a big deal except in very rare situations.

All that being said, when I built my trailer one of my requirements was that it would be something I'd be comfortable pulling through trails like the Rubicon. I've pulled it through some technical stuff and it has been awesome but haven't made it to the Rubicon yet with the trailer. But it's nice to know it will handle it just fine.
Best options for couplers used on off-road trailers (in my opinion of priority)

1: Max Coupler from Adventure Trailers
    2: Lock-n-Roll coupler
    3: Pintle/Lunette
    .
    .
    .
    10: Typical ball style hitch.

    Thanks Adam

I think when I build mine ill make it the same width for sure and maybe just a tad shorter wheelbase. I would like mine to follow the same track as it would just be something that I would have to worry about as much.

I hope this isn't offensive.... how does your RTT handle on trailer and truck, in a "If this bus is a rocking, dont come a knocking" type situation. You mentioned trying to get the best possible center of gravity and what not. Issues? I am researching all sort of options on where to go with trailer/RTT and I need to analyze every pro and con....if you know what i mean.

i just can't justify paying that price. plus we like to do night wheeling, after having everything setup for the RTT then packing it all back up later would just get old IMO.. that's the main thing in stopping me from getting one.

Just don't setup the tent if you know your going wheeling haha it's easy to setup and take down. And I don't mind but I do know it's not for everyone.

None of the above, use a little off road tear drop camper. I have lived out it full time one summer, it has a solar panel. It kept my phone charged and watched movies everynight.

Anyone ever make a RTT bed rack set up that can be easily dropped on the ground as well?

I want to be able to travel, spending some nights on the go and sleeping in the tent on the truck and spending some nights more permanently set up, i.e. drop the rack and tent onto the ground so I'm free to come and go from camp as I please without tearing down and setting up.
