    Yup.

Just as the right and left wheels need to turn at different rates, the front and rear axles also need to turn at different rates, so the transfer case has to allow for that by running a diff on the driveshafts.

You could quite literally "redneck engineer" an AWD using a third diff and come creative brackets and bevel gear assemblies, and of course adjusting your transmission's ratios to allow for the added diff.
Remember, AWD is full-time, and no 4L range, so this assembly would replace the transfer case.

Did you adjust your mileage for the tires? 265/75/16 are 3.7% bigger so you need to multiply your miles driven by 1.037 to get actual miles driven. Additionally yours is probably more like 4+% because the treadwrights are a lot taller than regular 265's

Anybody wanna guess whether an 08 SR5 RC Prerunner has the pwr mirror harnesses in the doors already even tho it does not have pwr windows or locks? I'm guessing it won't so I'll have to run wiring from doors to switch but I will find out tommorrow when I pull door panels to install nice fresh 2012 pwr mirrors just scored from member here. And would the mirror harness plugs for 2012 mirrors be same plug for earlier yr model pwr mirrors? I'm sensing a wiring job vs. plugnplay done in 15 minutes thing.

Jeep cherokes have a full time t case you could use they have a full time4wd position and part time 4wd position think this t case was used in hummers too. Allows for awd on wet or dry surfaces without damage to drivetrain and the ability to switch it for "real 4wd" my 2008 had it think its called selectrac.

The np-242 allows for full and part time 4wd as well ad 4-lo and even has a real lever no sissy switch haha probablly easy to source a junkyard one considering xj cherokees were a dime a dozen in the 90's.

Ratio gearing, I pictured the redneck engineering part with your first post thus my question. But yeah I know about awd and how it works.

Why even mess with all that when they make transfer cases that already do it for ya? Awd is for soccer moms not trucks. Just sayin

They don't always correlate, but being brilliant is a damned good way to get a big bank account.

My buddy was brilliant when his dad was a Diesel mechanic.
Today he owns two houses on the harbor and 3 boats.

    Still drives a 2000 325i though :D

    Seriously?

I'm surprised regular cabs have widow cranks. They aren't going to be prewired for anything but the speakers.

Really? Tell that to the 80 series Land Cruiser. sure, there are plenty that Have done their share of mall cruising but they are still probably the most stout/capable full time 4wd vehicle to roll off of a showroom floor.

I agree but they prob have an awd system that differentiates the front and rear through a transfer case not all that other crap that was my point transfer cases are capable of doing it

And that land cruiser is prob locked into 4lo through its awd transfer case for anything serious

Hah I thought about making some sigs for people since I was changing mine every few days. Then I got Call of Duty Black ops II and started playing zombies for 6 hours a day. Sigh. But good twerk.

As you probably know, the 80 series does have to be in 4lo to lock the front/center/ rear but I have found out that they are more than capable in 4hi and unlocked. I have wheeled mine ( pictured above ) in 4hi, 4lo, locked and unlocked and I was surprised what she could do in 4hi after my initial outings were locked up. She is like a Bull dog when she is locked and i am still running OEM birfs.

PLANTED, is the word that comes to mind. I would certainly take the 80 " wheeling " over the Tacoma any day. The only reason I bought the 4wd Tacoma is that I would rather have and not need it than need it and not have it.

About 10 minutes and you can do it with nothing more than a screwdriver and plastic butter knife.

There are 3 part numbers for the stalk, the only difference seems to be the legend/symbols to indicate delay, and which direction the knob is turned to increase/decrease the delay.

    I'm using 84653-04141
It has actual words on the stalk, and the slowest speed is all the way up on the knob... it's natural, as the knob is turned "down" (top toward you) the wipers speed up. When you hit bottom, it's time to pull the whole thing down, so speeding up the wipers is a continual progression of "down".

The '12-'13 stalks have symbols instead of words, and I think the part number specified for the '09 and later reverse the direction of operation of the knob.

Also, the low speed will change.
Right now, your 2 speeds are "Fast" and "Too Fucking Fast"
With the new stalk, "Fast" is now "Nice"

Got my tacoma in a little mud today, went out shootin' guns with the family and it was a little wet!
Thinking about updating suspension, maybe a little bit more lift. Currently running billys at 1.75 up front and a 1" block in the rear with 265/75/16. Any ideas? Not wanting to go any bigger on tires. (don't wanna lose power). anyway heres the pic
