Raised southern baptist, baptized at 13 yrs.The family broke up a few years later and we quit going to church. I never went back. I can't begin to guess how many times I've backspaced most of my post and started over. I'll leave it at-- I don't know, you don't know and I doubt we ever will. It all sounds like a good idea, but if you step outside the box and take a good hard look at it, Heaven or Hell is pretty far fetched

I proudly and boldly say that I am a Christian and I believe in the Lord God and have accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour! I know that I know that I know that God exists and He is a good, merciful, kind, and loving God. I used to be really wishy washy about my faith and thought it was front that people just tried to portray and unfortunately for some it is but when I was 20 God opened up my eyes and showed me His true nature. God does not like religion, that was man made. God intended us to have a personal one on one relationship with Him. There are a lot of people out there who know a lot about God but don't know God. God is love, God is peace in the middle of a storm, God is the ability to show kindness to your enemy that's who and what my God is. But ya see you never know God if you don't personally seek Him out. Your wife can't save you, your parents can't save you, heck even your pastor can not save you. God draws near to those who seek after Him. I know i'm gunna get a lot of flack about this but to be mocked for God for me is an honor. I love the one true God, Jehova the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and I serve Him no matter what!

As much as I'm not into religion or God either I can respect that. You have a personal relationship not dictated by a large organization with questionable motives, or trying to tell you what and how to do things. And that's my problem with religion. I doubt many of the people going to church have that true belief like you do. They just go to "be religious" or be absolved of the sins they did Monday through Saturday when Sunday rolls around, and maybe an extra day around Christmas, Easter, etc.

Raised with no particular religion, although my parents did at least familiarize me with Catholicism through Sunday School when I was young.

I guess you could say I'm an Agnostic, perhaps a Deist, in that I'm not 100% convinced that everything is random chance, but I wholeheartedly reject the tenet of faith that "God" takes an active role in the workings of the world. That, to me, sounds like people not taking responsibility for their actions by blaming some ephemeral being whose existence can never be proven while one is still alive.

If there is a God, he/she/it watches our antics bemusedly.

Honestly.... I can't understand the "WHY" for religion...

Fear is a powerful thing... however I refuse to believe in the mythical Christ because in my opinion it just doesn't make sense. My mom never shoved religion down my throat, she exposed me to it. Even as a child I had a difficult time believing..

The miracles claimed in the bible have not been reprouced to my knowledge with any tangible evidence.

religion has done both good and terrible to/for people..
If something goes good for me, it's because I took steps for my desired outcome to become a reality, NOT because I prayed..

I don't know all the answers to the mysteries of the universe.
But I certainly won't to what I consider silly superstitions to explain the unexplainable.

Here's a few movies to watch:
    Jesus Camp...YIKES
    Religulous...
    Marjoe
    The God Who Wasn't There..

Although most 'of belief' that I know REFUSE to watch such films, because it makes them question their faith... To me, that is ridiculous..

I think we should ask questions, and "because I have faith" is not an acceptable answer for me. Where are the miracles today ? Where are Raining Frogs and oceans being split in half ? Why can't Jesus heal amputees ?

Amen. Well stated. Christians are almost always persecuted. Hodge persecutes them remorselessly.

As a Christen myself who also wonders about miracles I have a different perspective about looking for "signs" from God. The feeling of God is like love. You can't touch it, see it, or even buy it, but you know and feel love when you have it. When someone in return loves you back its wonderful (I'm talking about love; not booty for all you late night porno-ers). The analogy of love to God best describes when someone is looking for "something in return" or "what's in it for Me!". We all know how love feels inside and going into love for the wrong reasons brings misery and heartache. Just my 2 cents
