Timing belt issue? time over mileage

Hey guys, need a little input on when to change the timing belt on my 2003 Tacoma. The thing is I follow the time over mileage; my taco only has 33,431 miles but its 2003. 6years old.
I'm looking at the Toyota Maintenance Log and at 72 months or 90,000 it says to change the timing belt on the 5VF-FE engine.


What do you guys think?

 

I would follow the time rather than mileage for your case.

 

I too would change the belt due to the time. I just had mine changed (2001 double cab w/65,000). My water pump began leaking so the two were changed along with all accessory belts.

 

I would have the belt inspected, i wouldnt just replace it if its not needed

 

If you're gonna bother taking it apart to take a look at it then why not just replace it since you have everything apart anyway?

 

loosening up the upper cover is all thats needed to inspect, it takes minutes and its free and easy, why spend money when its not needed? i dont get it, do you replace brake pads by time? accessory belts by time? I sure dont, I believe in preventive maintenance but you replace it now and what when it hits 90k replace it again???

 

If you read the OPs post he states that Toyota recommends changing it out every 72 months or 90K miles. Rather be safe than sorry, but that's just me I guess.

 

Im 7 years and 98K on the original belt. Popped the cover off and the belt still looks new...waiting till 120K to change it.
