This. I suppose the math is easier this way. But the rest makes little practical sense.

From pump's final click to dead rolling brick
    was eighteen point five gallons measured;
I never did believe that a jerry can
would be an item I so dearly treasured.

The light popped on a measly 4.7 miles earlier. I haven't run it to the light since.

I was lucky, the can was empty, but the truck stopped right in front of the gas station I was heading to

Yes, I did remember to compensate for the can. It took 2.2 gallons. Truck took another 16.3 to fill.

I ussally fill it up at around 240 miles.the gas gauge is just past a 1/4 mark..I've been averaging 15.7 ish for MPG and been topping it off with about 15 gallons each fill up..Ive been trying to get more miles out of the tank..im at 101k ..i put tonneau..aired tires to 35 psi..and just cleaned throttle body and mass air flow sensor.. however since i cleaned the tb and maf it been vibrating when acclerating while theres more pick up seems to be using more fuel...i feel like im the only one that didnt get gain out of cleaning those..they were pretty dirty..im worried i put it together wrong or something is lose idk

You didn't touch the wires up in the tube with anything right?

I bet it's just running on learned data that compensated for that dirty MAF. Sounds like it's time to record your tripmeters/radio presets and unplug the battery for 15 minutes to reset the ECU.

I spray a little in the black thing the TB was connected to with throttle body spray ..but i assumed it evaporated or dried by now...I wasnt sure if didnt tight something down tight enough. I was thinking the screw that holds down the black tubing to the throttle bottle was lose but i figured my check engine light would of lit up...I did the whole cleaning with the negative battery disconnected should i take both terminals off see what it does?

Just the ground terminal is sufficient. Don't take the positive off with the ground still connected; it's no fun to weld the wrench to the truck moments before the battery overheats and blows up.

Since you already disconnected the battery, you get to have fun with its re-learning procedure. It kind of sucks. I know you don't drive one, but with the manual tranny, those first 100 miles or so, every time the clutch goes down it revs to 2000 rpm before it figures out its own stupidity.

Doesn't sound like you cleaned the MAF from that description. It's the sensor that has the big plug on the top front of the airbox, between the TB and the filter. For some reason the cosmetic cover has a square hole so you can see it. Two phillips screws and it comes out, straight up. The MAF has an IAT sensor on the side (that loves to collect dirt for some reason, spray it off too) and the actual MAF wires are up inside its square venturi tube; those are what cause headaches and sometimes need spraying with MAF cleaner. Those two ridiculously tiny coil wires are what I was referring to - don't touch them with anything.

edit: here's a youtube video showing the sensor. He never actually cleans the MAF wires, just the air temp sensor on the outside. The important ones are inside the part.

Almost always right at 300 miles to light on. If someone thinks they can get the 21 or what ever gallons that the factory says the tank holds, kind of forgetting that the fuel pump is in there taking up space. Haven't ran my truck empty, but like 40 miles with light on and butt puckered, there was not much if any fuel left in the tank. Think I had 340 miles on the clock. Put in 18.7 gallons. There's no way the tank can actually be filled with 21 gallons of gas.

I'm getting around 300-330 depending on highway vs city driving and time of year. Around 17 gals to fill up. With the fuel additives in winter mileage goes way down. Summer gas is better for mpg's. The EPA pulling their heads out of their asses and admitting ethanol has failed miserably would make it a hell of a lot better. Ethanol kills gas mileage. This is counter productive to helping the environment and using less gas. What a bunch of idiots. Many car companies are now telling consumers using E-15 voids your warranty. What does that tell you about ethanol? Funny the EPA can't figure this out but measly car companies can. There are so many negative facts about ethanol I can't even list them all here.

I've seen video before, I pulled that sensor out and soaked it with CRN cleaner and let it dry which it did quickly I might pull it out and try again do I really need to disconnect the negative again? Or is it just matter letting the computer relearn ?

K, you already cleaned it, time to give it a few weeks to settle down. It usually takes my truck about a thousand miles after a battery disconnect to come back up to typical mileage. Since I changed my battery out a week ago I'm going through similar fun as you. I wish Toyota had more precise baseline maps

I track all my mileage until the light comes on. My "city" has a population of 14,000 people. I bitch when it takes me longer the 5 minutes to get across town.

I have a 40 mile daily commute, which for most people born and raised in Hawaii is kinda far. Luckily for me I go to work at 4:30am and finish before peak traffic. Probably why I normally average 20+ mpg.
