step on brakes dash lights come on

just as the title states. the lights on the heater controls as well. i searched but couldn't find anything. anyone else had this problem. no changes to the truck recently ie stereo etc. im thinkin fuse maybe, but thats just a guess. cheers.

 

Check all of your bulbs front and rear. My wrx was doing the same thing. Find out one of my taillight bulbs did not have a good connection.

 

oh wait come to think of it i did replace my whole left rear taillight assembly with an aftermarket one about two months ago. after doing some more searching i think your right that will probably be the culprit. when it stops pouring i will try swapping the bulbs out for the old ones.

 

If you have a pigtail connector for a trailer, then it has gone bad. If you read the rating on the regulator you will find that most trailers with non-led lights exceed the allowable draw for the regulator. I am on my third one for my 01. I pull a small (5'x8') enclosed trailer and the combination of 4 side markers, 2 taillights, and a license plate light, and that exceeds the recommended draw for the regulator. The easy way to test is disconnect the pigtail and see if the dash lights are still coming on when you apply the brakes.

 

so i finally got a day with no rain so i finally made it outside to do some troubleshooting. turns out it was the bulb in the taillight i replaced. changed the cheap chinese bulb for a genuine GE 1157 and problem solved. thanks for the insight.

I used the Curt T Connectors about 3 years ago. Would that present the same issue?

Never mind. After disconnecting all is well. I reckon' I'll have to get a new set every 3 years.

Curt T connectors that were installed 3 years ago for trailer lights were the issue. Evidently the black box others have mentioned went bad.
