how easy would it be to break into the back panel of an extang solid fold in combination with a pop and lock by wedging something in there?

basically...how securely does that panel clamp down with those spring loaded clamps?

Just like most locks, they keep honest people honest... if someone wants in, they're gonna get in. :notsure:

very true. that's what i was thinking. i don't think any of these are 100% crow bar proof. not to mention the windows of the truck etc.

Nothing is 100%. A hangar and a few minutes will get you into several covers with the wire latch. Someone would have to really put some serious force to pop the extang, thus causing a lot of noise and drawing attention. It is very sturdy and the play is minimal. I've made two cross country trips since August with no issues. I feel far more comfortable that someone would be noticed in a parking lot.

Thanks for the reply and info sandjunkie and 05silverTaco. I agree that being able to use the factory rails as well as being able to open without opening the tailgate and from front or rear make this the best option. Saving up for this solution. I just hope the auto pop n lock isn't too much of a pain. I hate taking door panels off...

You don't have to take off the door panels for the pop n lock. Just the kick panel. It pops off and back on easily.

Can the factory bed divider be used with a folding tonneau cover, or would I have to go with a Leer 700?

I looked at their site and they have tie downs listed. Didn't see a pic so :notsure: what they are like or how/where to mount them.

Depends on if you want a key lock or automatic/electric. Pop N Lock makes both a manual keyed version and an automatic/electric version. Dynolock also makes a automatic/electric version. I liked how the Pop N Lock mechanism worked vs. the Dynolock but I think both have similar results.

A little old but this is exactly what I need to ask so I'm bringing it back. OP, did you finally decide on a cover, and if you did how do you like it after a few months of use?

I am looking at buying a hard tri-fold type cover, I have an access which I like but I would like something more secure without completely losing the bed capacity. I am not crazy about the Bakflips, I don't want to lose my rails and I also have read some posts about how they are relatively easy to unlock with just a hanger, plus I don't like how they block the window when folded. I also really don't want to pay more than around $600 for a cover so that really limits what I can get. I've searched and haven't found much on either the Rugged cover or the Tonnopro, both seem to be the cheapest hard covers available so are they just unknown or junk?

I ended up getting the Extang Solid Fold 56915 for my 2013 Access Cab Taco from Luke at Truckalterations.com. I believe it was something like $654 with free shipping and a free tailgate seal.

A+. I got to keep the factory rails and I have had 0 leakage / water issues. It makes no noise when driving on the highway and it's tough. It was very easy to install following the instructions along with those posted on a thread here. I'd have to search and find those again but the key thing here was to to not use the attachable brackets that come with it. The one thing people may not like is that when it folds up, about 1.5' of the bed is still covered. That's not a big deal to me and if I need to, I just get in the bed and reach under that area.

I doubt someone could get in with a hanger. If they had a crowbar yes but at that point, what's stopping someone that determined? I think your bed is the least of your concerns at that point and you should expect broken windows too. Overall, it's pretty secure and has good locking tension coupled with a tailgate lock.

I would highly recommend spending the extra money. I was going to get the Tonnopro but it's a thinner hard cover with vinyl over it so it's not really as strong or secure. The Extang doesn't flex.

I have the BAK G2 on mine and I love it. 4 bends and its folded up against the back glass. Not to heavy but can hold some weight (the grandkids). I bought it with it on it but the guy kept a record of everything he ever bought for it (including gas) and it looks like he got from a site called Hitch Anything.
