What saddens me is that there are so many in TW from the posts I read - and I respect them - that just don't really understand Christianity. They learn it from fallen ministers and equate it to hypocrisy. I have found that you have to study it. In fact, I have often voiced frustration that His word isn't easier at times to understand. But boy when you do understand it....it's just the most beautiful thing. And it's not just feeling good or being emotional, its understanding it intellectually as well. At its core is humility. My 2 cents. (I should add that I haven't yet found two people that understand it exactly the same!!! That's one of the amazing things......it is not a rigid and uncompromising message to me, but it is one of grace, forgiveness and redemption)

Honestly, it's the same thing over and over. Posts like this, make religion 'seem sooo good with warm fuzzies on top'..

This is the fundamental problem I have.. Where you discuss "really studying" christianity.. The big cluster here is people that study the bible to prove the bible is true.. That makes no sense.

True understanding of ANYTHING should come from studying not only that chosen topic ( christianity ), but also studying opposing views. This is where Christians fall off the board. Because they're not 'allowed' to perform such blasphemous actions.

My favorite part is how the the first 4 of the 10 commandments really have nothing to do with "being a good person"... They're about making sure that noone even questions god.. Sounds a lot like old school dictatorships.. Reminds me of Harry Potter where everyone says "he who must not be named".

    the first 4 commandments.

ONE: 'You shall have no other gods before Me.'
TWO: 'You shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.'
THREE: 'You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.'
FOUR: 'Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.'

4/10 commandments -> don't make our world any better.

Oh quite the opposite!!! Not correct!!!! We not only study it, we debate it, we question it. There may certainly be church's that don't allow that...look at how many Christian denominations there are!!!! My Discipleship class includes Dr's, Lawyers, Conservatives, Liberals......but regardless how can you challenge love, forgiveness and redemption? It's not trying to figure out if Noah actually went inside a big fish......think about the state of humankind when the Bible was written. It was a New Word, a New Message.

When I was in my 20's and 30's, I was more or less a non-practicing Christian. I became more serious about it when I found I needed help in how to raise my children to be good people. People are drawn for many reasons. One of my relatives through loss of a child at age 11 to bacterial meningitis. When I was younger, I knew I didn't attend church or study His word largely because it was simply easier not to. Being a Christian is not easy. It requires a lot of you.

As usual on this topic i'm ok with agreeing to disagree on general principal. I'm glad religion does good for you I can't knock that. The main annoying impact religion has on my life right now are latter day saint elders knocking on my friggin door.. Argh..

The REAL MAGIC here is how Toyota Tacoma's can bring so many of us of differing beliefs together.

Whether or not there is a god, we both have redline tuning hood struts. See, we're not so different :)

good luck with the faith.. say 'yo' to JC for me.

"I've never understood how God could expect His creatures to pick the one true religion by faith-—it strikes me as a sloppy way to run a universe."
    - Robert Heinlein, Stranger in a Strange Land

"Faith strikes me as intellectual laziness, but I don't argue with it - especially as I am rarely in a position to prove that it is mistaken. Negative proof is usually impossible" Robert A. Heinlein (1991). Stranger in a Strange Land.

Just quotes that I have found interesting. Not trying to start a flame war!!!:)
