I am new to this and am wondering if putting a cold air system is worth the money? If I also get a performance chip? I have heard people on this site go either way on whether is beneficial to install cold aiir so any proven info would be great. Also which type of cold air intake system is highly recommended for an 2008 Toyota Tacoma V6? I dont do to much off-road driving but looking for upgrades to boost MPG and horsepower? would the mods mentioned above also affect my extended warranty? I also live in Cali which most cold air intakes are not legal but have no problem taking off when smog time rolls around. Any help is appreciated :confused:

Looking for best performance intake, i would choose URD's intake. As well cant go wrong with AFE Stage 2si intake as well. Dunno if you would see a big difference if your not supercharged. If your worried about warranty you can get the TRD intake which is a legal intake (2nd gen)

For "performance chips" theres only unichip that currently makes somethin for our tacomas and i heard they were not the best.

Your lucky with having an 08 you can upgrade to an aftermarket EMS which is a waayy better engine management system or "chip". URD's EMS is one of the best ones out there (pretty pricey though)

Thanks for that info on URD. Ive checked them out a little but the EMS sounds like something forsure to look into. Would the EMS and cold air intake go hand in hand if purchased together? Also superchargers looked expensive and not sure if they sell turbo chargers for tacomas but would either of those void a warranty because ive heard supers will? Any decently price super chargers?

URD's supercharger will void warranty but theres TRD supercharger that wont void warranty if your dealer install it for you. Let the dealer install it the price range can varry from which dealer. So maybe anything from 4K to 6K for S/C and install??

From what I've heard you can get a good price on the TRD supercharger online rather than through a dealership

The big difference between the two is that TRD is good for low end torque (roots style S/C) but doesn't produce the numbers like URD. URD is good for the high upper RPM's since its a centrifugal S/C and can produce alot more HP

Turbo chargers are all custom made unless you can get someone who knows what their doing to build a kit unless you know what your doing lol and that will void warranty as well lol

The EMS would make your intake more beneficial since the EMS tunes your engine for it so it would help.

What did you want to do with your truck? Just an intake or do you plan on a S/C down the road? Because if you just want an intake there's a cheaper way then buying an EMS just for that

Nothing will void your warranty unless it it proven that the part was the direct cause....

I wanted to do an cold air system, throttle bosy spacer and an "EMS" upgrade but like I said not incredibly knowledgeable about the best performance mods for the money I might spend. Of course the supercharger spounds kick ass but thats a TON OF MONEY that I dont really have......plus if I am ever interested in lift and wheels/tires I have to get affordable upgrades.
The super charger isnt out of the question necessarily. What mods would net me some improved horseppower and/or better mpg (actually a noticeable difference even if its slight) thats somewhat more economical?
My bro did all three (cold air, throttle body, and computer chip/tuner for his 03 ford 350 turbo diesel and he said jis increased performance was insane. Realize though that the turbo probably had a huge part to do with that and maybe some manufacturers have different results with the same set up.

yeah I figured anything aftermarket I put in I will need to be prepared to take out (if possible) when or if it need to get serviced thats why I am trying to do as much homework on this stuff as possible. Oh and the dealerships around where I live are insanely expensive if I had them do a TRD supercharger but I do really want one!

Diesels engines I've notice you can tune them with a chip and put crazy power on them lol not so much with our tacomas

If you just want a cold air intake, don't go the EMS route because that will be to expensive for just that upgrade, instead look into URD's MAF (mass airflow) tuner for the engine can compensate with increased airflow from the cold air intake. I believe throttle body spacers are useless but that's my opinion.

If you want some serious HP better to go the supercharger way
