What Brand of Gas Do You Use?

I prefer Shell or Chevron (with Techron). I have a question though, is it bad to put the higher octane gas, say, for one fill-up and then switch back to the lower octane gas? Will that have any negative effects on the fuel system? I've heard that it's good to try to put the higher octane gas when you can. Just asking...

We have a strong beer named after you in Canada. Its contains 8% alcohol. IT KICKS ASS.

From what I know, its best you stick to one grade of octane all the time. Its similar to you treating your GF#1 to a permium cut filet mignon at a high end resturant and your GF #2 at the soup kitchen down the road. Which one would put out, RedBull? You decide. Spare the details bud. Dont switch.

Same here in Texas (Houston). Our gas went up 25 cents over the past two days. I would sure like to see my PreRunner get up beyond 24 MPG.

 

Hess gas (based in NJ) is sold in the northeast, mainly NY, NJ, CT, and in some areas of MA. Before the founder of this company, dba Amanda Hess Corp passed away, they were the cleanest gas stations around.
Every year around thanksgiving, they ran a toy truck promotion which usually sold out within 4 hours of hitting the shelves. I remember getting up at 3am to wait in line for these truly limited production trucks, and buying two at a time for 4.95 a piece. That one truck i bought in '82 is now worth well over 100 bucks. the 1973 version is now valued at 3000.00, just a little bit of trivia here. Unfortunately today, they are all massed produced in china, and you can still find them in Hess stores well into January, so the value of the new ones is quite negative.

I usually go with what's cheapest and I find no discernable difference between the majors, ARCO, or "el pisso" brands. But don't take my word for it, read what the people who don't get paid to tell you something that's not true say...

Paying for premium gas can be a waste of money

Many people use premium gasoline in the belief that it's better for engines than regular. That can be a costly mistake, especially during times of high fuel prices. Octane grades don't represent a “good, better, best” choice; they simply measure the resistance of fuel to knocking or pinging, a condition in which gasoline burns uncontrollably in the engine's combustion chambers. Knocking and pinging can damage an engine.

While high-octane formulations resist knocking better than lower octanes, most engines are designed to take regular gas, which has an octane rating of about 87. Engines requiring premium gas are typically the more powerful ones found in sports and luxury vehicles. Those engines use a very high compression ratio, making them more vulnerable to knocking, so recommended fuels have octane ratings of 91 or higher. Using premium gas in an engine designed to run on regular doesn't improve performance.

Some engines for which premium gasoline is recommended can run on regular without problems. That's because the engine's knock-sensor system detects the presence of uncontrolled burning in the chambers. When it does, the engine's computer-control system retards engine timing, eliminating the knock but slightly reducing power. If you don't mind giving up some performance, you can run these engines on less-expensive regular gasoline. To check whether your engine is capable of running on regular gas, read your owner's manual or ask your dealership's service department.

 

As of yesterday when I filled up, it was $2.67 for regular here in CT.

Nothing but 76 for my baby.

 

We cannot control the rising cost of gas, but there is still alot we can do to make sure we all get the most out of each gallon consumed. Doing proper maintenance on the engine, type of oil used, clean air filters, tire pressures etc. Driving with a light foot on the throttle, no long periods of idle, and common sense will probably get you the best gas mileage for your money.

However, if gas goes to $3, $4, or even $5 a gal, it will not keep me from doing what i love best, and that is driving, exploring new areas, and enjoying my truck. And i will continue doing that until I am 6ft under.

I get better gas mileage out of Shell, go figure.....

 

i had read somewhere that Toyota uses Chevron for testing purposes....

 

I decided that my truck likes QT best out here in St. Louis, MO.
