No. How long of wood are you buying? I just put 10' base board through the slider and up to the dash. Don't know if that will work for you. That extender is not a bad idea.

youch eric, thats sketchy my buddy broke the slider window rails and window doing that a while back ha ha ha although he was buying the composite material for decking. its pretty heavy

i need to get 125 2x4x8 boards and dont want to have that weight laying on the tailgate down. Im doing this for a buddy so i think he and i are going to split the cost of the hitch extender thingy

cheaper to rent a trailer for a couple hours?

edit: didn't see the link to harbor freight. That's cheaper than I thought it would be.

ha ha haha, i dot that kind of stuff all the time, the wife hates it. Although now my architect buddy thinks that it wont hold the weight of the lumber he needs and wants to put it all in the back of his SUV and make multiple trips.

    we shall see

I was under the impression that the tailgate bending issue was related to having too much weight centralized on one spot of the tailgate. I would think if you were laying them down across the bed and then stacking up from there, you would be fine as the weight would be spread across the entire tailgate and not just one spot. You can also lay a shorter 2x4 sideways across the tailgate through the cable straps on each side. This would also help to spread the load across the entire width of the tailgate.

Yeah I would just leave your tail gate up and load them. Just spread them out evenly. People were breaking there tail gates by no being smart about things. I loaded my chopper in the back of my Tacoma. 625+ lbs I just used a small piece of ply wood with the tailgate down to spread the weight out.
