Cali, Jager and Chopper. all German shepherds. Cali is a rescue from California heading to Augusta Georgia. she is staying with us for a week till her new furever mom can take her. she is overall a good dog. they didn't do any training with her before. I'm trying what I can while we have her. she loves getting pets and lot of lovings. I think she used to be stuck outside on a leash her whole life or in a pen. she is good with other dogs and our puppy. just thought I'd share a little story with fellow dog lovers. chopper is a bit thin at the moment. he almost died a week ago. toxins were attacking his kidneys. stayed a few nights at the vet. doing better now that hes at home with the big dogs.

I believe it is actually made worse in the silvers and charcoals because of the breeding involved to get the color IIRC, can anyone confirm that?

I don't mind getting a rescued dog, I just want a silver. Yes, the silver lab I want is $1100. Comes with up to date shots, papers, chipped, etc. If I didn't want a silver, sure, I would get a rescue chocolate in a heart beat.

Where can I find one of these rescue pups?

I will be getting a lab whenever I get out of college, a chocolate actually. I'd love to get a rescue instead of paying for a breeder

They're all over. Actually more so down by you. I found mine on craigslist for $125. She's a black lab / boxer mix. Smartest dog I've ever seen (I know, I'm a typical parent :D) She came from a gas shelter in NC. I understand they're all over down there. You can also check out petfinder.com.

^^^So true…especially if you are getting it from a breeder… I would assume you prolly intend to show or breed/stud, or even if its just for the sake of the breed, i would demand OFA results….
but in the same note I think most breeds that grows up to be 60/70+ lbs should have their hips at least looked at by a vet prior to breeding…..

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Good words to live by, I only adopt. There are just too many homeless dogs in shelters that need homes. Chocolate labs are wonderful, we had one named Buddy, unfortunately he passed away from a heart attack in December at age 9. Anyway, he actually adopted us! You see, he was my aunt's dog and her and her husband went away for a week so they left the dog with us and he just had the time of his life. See, they lived in a small house with a tiny yard and Buddy never got no exercise so was really pent up and bored. Meanwhile our yard is huge and I played ball with him everyday. So they come take him home when they get back, and next morning I wake up and there he is out on the porch with a ball in his mouth, ready to play! We took him back later that day, and every day after that he hopped their fence in the morning when they let him out and strayed over to our house. He was trying to tell us all something, and low and behold, ended up adopting us. Sometimes the dog picks it's owner, that was the case with Buddy. Sure broke my Dad's heart when he died, they were tighter than peas in a pod, it was so sudden when we lost him, but he went quickly and didn't suffer. I buried him the next morning up on the hill overlooking our property next to the other dogs we've had to lay to rest over the years. Now Dad wants a german shepherd so I am on the quest for finding the right one, I use petfinder primarily.

My beagly thing (apparently half beagle and half border collie. A Border Beagle?) had this call that sounded like Flipper (the dolphin) talking. In the past 3 weeks it has morphed into a full-on yodel. Hilarious. The maintenance guys at my apartment were weirded out by it. But then, the neighbor downstairs told them I had a vicious dog I was training to fight and I never kept it caged.

And frankly, she is pretty vicious. If you're a rawhide.

On no, he was messing with them, that's all. He's a cool guy. A pipe burst in my wall and he had water running across his breaker box (directly below) from it, so he had to call them over and he thought he'd play a little prank on them. They all got a good laugh when they saw her.

Last Wednesday I found my girl curled up, paralyzed, under a bush in the back yard. We had had a few days of warm weather and I think she was bitten by a waking Mojave Rattlesnake. When I found her, she was cold to the touch and she was unresponsive to my voice or touching. She was just barely breathing. Because we live over 30 miles from a vet, I had to put her down myself. I'll never be able to clear that mental image from my head.
