I'm gonna need heart surgery soon. You have an option to be knocked out? At least I was told I do?

I have a close friend that just had Lasik a month or so ago and he stands behind it as being one of the best things he has ever done. His vision was better instantly and I saw him the next day. Aside from having a little blood on one side of both of his eyes he was fine. He wishes he would have done it sooner

The military doesn't offer LASIK. They do offer PRK though, which they say is better for you. Instead of cutting a flap in your eye, they just laser off the top layer of gunk in your eye.

Really? We had a contracted cadet in army ROTC get LASIK paid for by the military?

I think ROTC is a different entity. I haven't heard of anyone in the AF or Army getting LASIK, just PRK for years. It's safer for us, and we can get back to our jobs sooner. Since I work on planes, and do a lot of flying I have to have something safer than them cutting a flap.

Only problem I have with getting either is I don't want to wear my glasses for 2-3 months before the surgery. I hate those things.

    ROTC isn't military yet though.

Huh... I think I would still do PRK though. Thanks for the link. Last few times I looked into it they said PRK was the only thing for a while.

    So, I stand corrected.

Edit: I can't get anything BUT PRK due to the fact I am in aviation.

that article from '11 says the only places at that time for it were Willford Hall and the Academy. when i took a class at Keesler in 03-04, a guy came over for Kadena for the class, did his PRK right after (had to use his own leave), and then they flew him home. dunno if guard members are able to apply. have to check it out at the clinic next month.

I think the reason he had to use his own leave is that you can't fly AFTER the procedure for a certain amount of time. So he probably took R&R time. I had a guy in my shop take a train out to the academy to get it done, and then train back.
