I whole-heartedly hope that the Dodge diesel takes off and is successful. It will force other companies to do something to remain competitive and could lead to some better engine options in the future. If other companies don't follow suit, and the Dodge seems to be doing well in a few years, it could be enough to make me give Dodge a hard look when it comes time to replace the Taco :anonymous:

Im not a Dodge guy, but I would potential be in the same boat. I was hopeful when the F150 ecoboost came out, but it seems a little overrated.

A guy gets a seasonal job for a logging company in the remote Alaskan wilderness. All the workers live in tents and there isn't a single female among them. After a couple of weeks the guy asks the man in charge, "What do you do for fun around here since there's no women?"

The man in charge says, "See that barrel over there?"

    "Sure, I see it."

"Stick your junk in their after work tonight. Just trust me." He says.

After the day's work, tired and curious, but even more in need of relief, the man gingerly unzips and...

The next day the man in charge asks, "Did you try it?"

The new worker exclaims excitedly, "Yes, and wow! It was great, the best ever. I'm gonna use that thing every day!"

The man in charge says, "You can use it every day except Tuesdays."

"Why not on Tuesdays?" the man asks.

"Because that's your day in the barrel."

The ecoboost is a cool engine it's a toss I have no idea what I'd rather have the 6.2 or Eco they have their cons the 6.2 has the badass factor and can sound better but 12mpg avg YUCK.

I'd take the 5.0L all day over either one. The Eco isn't all it's cracked up to be. It's cool, just not great for what it was intended to accomplish. the 6.2 is just pure badass but unpractical for daily use.

Where does it burn? It might not be the truck causing it... Does it itch also? You should really see a doctor, TW isn't the place for such discussions...

I'd give the Eco boost a chance once the kinks are worked out for truck use. I think too many people just look at the fuel economy and compare it to the 5.0 and say its basically the same even though its got greater capability. I don't really view it for its "eco" part as much as I view it as a cheaper alternative to the 6.2. It tows the same as the 6.2 and is a several thousand dollar cheaper option when compared to the 6.2 while returning notably better fuel economy if you make that comparison. Don't know how towing fuel economy compared but for me personally its a moot point since nothing is going to get great fuel economy there. Obviously there have been some documented issues but the 3 people I know with them seem to like them.

The F150 is their bread and butter vehicle and with the nearly 50% take rate they were getting on the EB I think they'll get it straightened out. With that being said of I were buying one TODAY it would probably be the 5.0.

If I was towing a lot, I wouldn't even consider the ecoboost. Small engines making big power and torque numbers is just begging for parts to fail. A bigger engine comfortably making enough power to move a heavy load will be better in the long run.

He touched me first with the ugly 5 spoke wheels and then he touched me with the 265/65's with a 3" lift... :(

But it was still good for me, I'm getting 23 mpg now! Hehehehe

Not the same, but this reminds me of my old 77 Chevy Malibu. That tank had a straight 6 and you could practically watch the needle sink driving up the street. The 350 would have been better on fuel since the 6 in a row was so overmatched.

not sure why so much hate for the eco-boost... idk if you saw the stress test ford did to it, but it was amazing.

put the engine on a dyno for what would be 10 years of hard use...

froze it to -20 degrees and shocked it a bunch of times...

put it in a truck a dragged logs up a mtn for a bunch of miles..

then put it in their baja truck and won the baja 1000 with it.

later they had a mechanic tear it down publicly, and they guy was like uh id run this for another 100k miles.

doubt the 4.0l we have could handle that shit.
