Hey all, so I am porting a box for my Pioneer shallow mount sub (TS-SW2501S4) and I wanted some opinions/pros and cons. Below is my design, and I have already figured out basically everything except where to put the sub. Originally, I designed it to be (where you see it)--
[A]: on panel #3, facing toward the back of my '00 Xtra cab, but I'm wondering if I should instead
: cut the hole on the slanted side (panel #4) and have the sub facing into my driver's seat.
However, with option B, I risk feeling the sub when it moves and pushes air, which is why I am creating a new box in the first place; my old box (pics below) allowed me to feel the sub too much, rather than let me hear it all as one whole system. I could feel every single note the sub hit. I am hoping to avoid this by building a new box, and my original thought process was that by having the sub facing into the back wall of the truck, it would eliminate actual subwoofer noise and leave behind only the bass, expecially since it will be a ported box. (My previous box was sealed with ~.7 cubic ft., and my new one will be ~1.07 cubic ft. ported.)
SO, in conclusion, my question is simple: which will be better, to have the sub in panel #3 or #4?

I have recently been running my old box by just flipping it up and setting it on the back seat behind the driver's seat, and this has eliminated much of the problem. However, as you can imagine, it is much too bulky for that position.

I would do panel #4. But I would put it behind passengers seat.

I was thinking about that too... But I occasionally need to have 2 passengers, and since I'm 6'3 I dont like having people sit behind me. So I kinda need that space for passengers, unless I figure out an easy way to wire it where I can move it within seconds if needed.

    Daves indeed

Are you gonna have an amp mounted to it? Gonna have to save room for that.
Just remember to use extra wiring so it can be moved around and such.

Amp is already installed and wired underneath passenger seat, so its just the sub and box. Still debating on which panel to cut for the sub....

Bump? Still leaning towards facing it towards the rear. Any suggestions why this might be a bad idea?

Facing it towards the rear will be fine.. I'd suggest some Raamat or something to that effect on the rear wall before you face it that way.. It will make a world of difference.

Kind of like dynomat or sound deadening material I assume? I was planning on that. Thanks!

...Into the port? Haha the space between panels 6 and 7 is where the port is. I dont see any difference between downfacing and rear-facing, either way it's into a wall and away from free air. Right?

Talk to Rick at Raamaudio and get Raammat.. Guy really knows his stuff, and I did my entire truck with it. Made a HUGE difference in sound quality.

How do you like the sound of the TS-SW2501S4? i just ordered two of them. Pioneer states it's a 9 5/16" cut out. I'm looking for a pre fab sub box, but they all say 10".

I got this one David! haha

the sub is unbelievable. maybe it's just David's well constructed custom box :D but I was blown away by the amount of bass that this little sub put out, and a shallow mount nonetheless. if you have two you'll be more than satisfied

Sorry guys for late replies. Laperlanegra, I loved that sub, really good for themoney and space. Don't overthink the box game, a 10" subwoofer fits a 10" box. Pre-made boxes are cut so that you can fit that size sub in

Alright, so here is the final product (much later ) I finished the box and then bought an alpine type R for the sub-- but dont get me wrong, even when I still had the Pioneer shallow mount i could tell the difference between sealed and ported. I LOVE the ported box. Then I stuck the Type R in there... wow.
Anyway, here's some pics of the finished product:
