I would like to go from my stock 16in wheels with 5.25 bs to 17in wheels with 3.75bs and was wondering if this is possible. The new wheels would be 17 x8 vs. 16 x7. I've read a lot about possibility of rubbing and needing 1.25 spacers. My truck is a 2012 TRD Off Road. I'm sorry in advance for what I'm sure is a redundant question.

With everything being said here, could anyone offer up a suggestion as to what backspacing & wheel offset would be best to tuck the wheels & tires back in as close to stock as possible when running the Maxtrac spindles?

I have stock sport rims with 1.25 spidertax spacers on 285/70/17 tires. I'm looking to get new wheels. I'm looking at a few sizes and was wondering how much further they would stick out compared to my current set up?

    17x8 -13offset 4" bs = .750" more
    17x9 -6offset 4.75 bs= 1.0" more
    17x9 -12offset 4.5" bs= 1.25" more

Not unless you remove your fender flares.
I believe those spindles have backspacing requirements in order to clear them.
    Correct

    3" lift, so far
so i have read the hell out of this thread and think i have the wheels down, my question now is what tires should get?!? im planning on getting some Falken ORC952 wheels 18x9 with -12mm offset which i belive should be 4.5 backspace. I would like some tires that fall somewhere in between street and offroad, something all terrain I guess. I have a 2013 trd sport with a 3" lift, what tires and largest size of them do you guys recomend? these wheels do come in a 17x8.5 and 17x8 as well. I reall want to avoid any rubbing and not have to trim too much if possible... Thanks so much for the suggestions in advance.

285/65/18 if you are willing to trim, 285/60/18 if you are not.

Thanks for the knowledge you guys gave to us all here in this forum..We really appreciate your help. Just need some advise, Ok so I just purchased a set of Toyo Open Country AT II tires (285x70x17) and I was wondering if my wheel size/specs are fine. Planning on buying a set of KMC XD Spy (17X9) 6X5.5 OS: -12mm BS: 4.53"..I have a set of 1.5" wheel spacers on stand by just in case I'll need it. Right now my truck is in the shop and getting (Maxtrac spindles on) so I'll have 4" front and 2" rear lift. So my question is, will I still have any problems with tire clearance/turning radius/rubbing issues?. Thx again for your help!.

Well it's been confirmed by 2 tire shops now that on my 2013 with 3" lift 285/70/R17 and 0 offset wheels will just clear without any rubbing issues :D I'm still skeptical but we'll see...

    what width wheel?
i just put on 17x8.5 wheels with a 0 offset and only 265/70's and i have a tiny bit of rub on the mud flap and had to remove the odd little mud flap at the very front. only 5100's at 1.75 though.

yo,kpt..i'll be getting tires for my 2010 dcsb prerunner sport in a week or so.my current set-up is procomp 7105(17x8/4.5bs,265-65-17,5100's @ .85 and tsb, with bushwacker flares)i'd like to go with 265-70-17 yoko geolander,at's.mainly for the low weight of the tire, truck is daily driver.i saw the same tire on a 4runner with stock wheels and the forward edge of the tire was real close to hitting plastic, even with stock 4runner wheels...can i assume that with my offset and .85 lift will give me clearance,or is the clearance issue actually somewhere else(alignment, ect)i'll go with 265-65-17 if need be...but i'd rather have the higher sidwall for looks, but not at the cost of ruining a set of tires.

You should be good to go.

0 offset with 8" wide wheels is ideal. but you'll still have some rubbing.

    ~4.5" bs

for 265's, between 5.5 and 4.5" of BS

    You'll be good to go

Check to make sure the 265/65/17's are approved for 9" wide wheels. Most are not. You can find that info on the tire manufacturers website.

Hey KPT i pmd you earlier today about the rims i ordered and you mentioned i might rub the UCA's. 18x8.5 +10mm offset is a 5.2" backspace. If I recall correctly you are running 18x9 +10mm offset and that would be 5.4" backspace. I take it you dont have rubbing issues.

I don't, but I have 9" wide wheels, so my tires are pulled out 1/4" further than yours on the inner edge. And I have very, very little room between my tires and uca. You'll probably be fine, but it will be close.

Crap, I am really worried about it. I have time to cancel the order and get different wheels, otherwise when they arrive i have to pay to ship em back if any issues.
