Interesting mix

 

I laid to rest my best friend of 16 years several weeks ago. Yesterday I adopted this 1.5 year old black lab, and it is true dogs pick their owners. I visited with and walked many dogs at the rescue, but he picked me. After 5 mins on our first walk at the rescue I sat on a bench, and he sat by me. He then put his front paws on my chest and laid his head on my shoulder. I knew tight then. He is a pure joy and I look forward to many years with my new faithful companion.

Sorry about your loss.. But good to hear you found another great dog.

 

My girlfriend and I took our little guy for a truck ride and a walk at the river walk the other day.

 

That must have been awful. I've ran over 2 dogs in my life and it is the most sickening, awful feeling in the world. Hope I never have to go through that again.

Yep. White Shepherd mix. Not sure what else was in there. She was an amazing dog. You couldn't get within 100 yards of our house without her letting us know you were there. I started the application process with a somewhat local Shepherd rescue a couple of days ago, but they pissed my wife and I off so now I'm going to wait until I have a chance to start searching the local shelters for a sub-year-old Shepherd girl.

What did they do?

 

Dogs truly are amazing. Here is our protector. Our new born has been home for 3 days and Simon is by his side all the time.

 

On the application I indicated that the dog would spend the majority of its time outside and sleep in a dog house. The dog would still get plenty of family time since we are always outside. They responded by denying my application saying that by doing that we aren't treating the dog as a loved member of the family and said we need to "do more research" before becoming dog owners. Apparently this Shepherd rescue wants the dog to be inside all the time and treated like a Chihuahua.

I wish you were closer. My shepherd may need a home in the next few months. She's exactly what you would be looking for in a mostly outside/sometimes inside dog.
