You didn't say whether you buy name-brand gas or not OP. When I burn Shell or Chevron gas I get 16-17 MPG consistently with 95% highway driving. When I (used to) buy wholesale crap at Costco, my fuel economy dropped straight to 12 MPG under exact same driving conditions. No more "cheap" stuff for me. YMMV

I had contemplated the auto but one of the reason I went Tacoma again vs the Tundra was the manual option!

I agree, I really miss the manual. If you go to larger tires, would that not effectively achieve a higher drive ratio?

I normally fill up at Irving or ESSO ( Canadian Name Brands) NEVER at costco as I am aware of the quality.

Bigger tires drop the rpm. Overall bigger tires aren't gonna improve you mpg, but you won't have to regear like most automatic drivers will want to do.

Go to 35s and the final OD ratio matches the stock tires with an automatic.

    didn't state your driving habits.

    Chive On too mate!

Are you running regular or premium? I run regular and maybe that could be a cause.

Also what is the DBCB? Double B(???) C(???) Box...I'm guessing

I'm getting 18mpg. Thats at 10k miles with an Auto double cab Off Road. I thought it would be better, but thats not bad at all considering the 4wd and its capability. I would struggle with 12. I'm not sure aftermarket mods could really help that one

No Toyota gave the 6 spd an O/D that you can use towing. I get 20+ with my 6 spd.

    this and that...
i aint even gonna sugar coat this, i get shitty gas mileage in my truck and i dont even drive the truck hard. just from a crude calculation, im getting about 14 mpg lol. 30 dollars gets me about 100 miles. if i bought this truck cause i was gonna use it as a daily, there would be problems, but i dont so its all good :). my mazda 6 on the other hand, almost 27 mpg. 30 dollars gets me about 187-190 miles.

...and then made the towing package (oil cooler, seven pin connector, hitch) ...automatic trucks only. LOL what a schizo way of doing things.

Makes you wonder how many people actually use that 6th gear for towing versus how many of us cuss at it for highway ineptitude. Honestly if I was towing a trailer of significant size I'd still use the 1:1 5th gear so the tranny fluid wasn't subjected to long term shearing stress. It's literally only a couple hundred rpm more at normal towing speeds anyways.

Still a ridiculous gear for highway speeds and rated 2 mpg worse than the automatic only because of the gearing.

Had to do some digging on that one. For some reason all these years I didn't think they offered the tow package on the 6 speed. Looks like I was wrong. Oops!

I still think it's better to use 5th gear with heavy stuff. Less heat in the gearbox.

Why would I want to do that? The trans is designed to be used in 6th I tow a camper all over the country and use 6th all the time at high way speeds.
