Thanks man. I hope you're not a betting man though Jim, cause I was just offered 27k for it. KBB says the private party value in "very good" condition is 28.4k ad 26k for trade in.

I got $26,700 for mine, similarly modded, and with a huge dent in the rear bumper, with 36k miles. Also had all the stock suspension and wheels. I (respectfully) disagree with you here, Jim.

That said, folks shit in my FS thread like you read about, and it was really funny. These things hold their value like whoa.

I actually have a jeep now. Imagine that.
I'm not surprised. When I was looking after I wrecked mine, best deal I could talk someone down to was 22k and that was on a 07 with about 85k on the clock.

Damn, I never see prices like this when people say what they bought. Then again, I wonder how often people just plain lie about the deals they get.

I picked up my '97 miata in great shape with an $800 hard top for $4100. There were two 99's that both sold sans hard top for $4000 to $4200 around the same time. And yet I look around on forums and people say they paid $2500 all over the place...

These trucks hold their value, especially if they are maintained well. I think I should be able to get 28 for it. My fingers are crossed at least.

I wouldn't hold out. You've got an offer for 27, the longer you wait, the lower the offers usually get. At least thats what always happens to me.

I'd second this, they say the same thing in real estate too. With a big purchase like this, the first offer is coming from someone who has been browsing craigslist for a few weeks, has figured out what he wants, and knows what they're going for. That's the guy who is ready to go.

You could tell him 27.5 even if you ended up taking 27 so he doesn't feel like he got a bad deal (as people tend to if you take their first offer), but I would also probably let the truck go.

Edit: Also, it's craigslist, people know how long it has been sitting. When I'm looking for a (car/truck/lawnmower/anal probe) on craigslist, and I see something close to what I want that has been sitting for awhile, that's when I start with really lowball offers because I assume they're getting desparate. These people know when you put the ad up.

I think there's some truth to this. There's also the phenomenon that everybody thinks they got a good deal, regardless of what they paid. If they bought whatever they bought, it's because they thought it was a fair price. Not many people buy stuff knowing it's overpriced, and then brag about how much they overpaid. If they DID overpay, they'll rationalized it by saying what great shape it's in, how much the mods are worth, how really, in the grand scheme, it was a great buy.

In my experience, Most everybody expects to negotiate some. I'd at least come back and tell him $27,500 and he can have it, and then find the bluebook thing showing that it's "really worth 1300 more" (or however much). If he even says $27,250 you did a little better. No harm in trying.
