That's just an example of how a few bad apples ruin the whole bushel. Hazing is non-existent at 90% of fraternities and you shouldn't paint the entire Greek life with that brush. It suck's that they decided to do that but it should not be considered a representation for all Greeks.

 One of five that I would ever call better than my own.

On another note, I'm learning Greek, so I can actually read all of those shirts and signs that I couldn't before :)

I have to agree that fraternity life for me during college was a positive experience. I attended a small school with ~1,800 students with over 50% being part of Greek organizations. Yes, there were some interesting stunts pulled during rush and yes, I paid dues. But I also had a 120 yr. old house to live in with my friends, there was always someone to help me with academics if it was a subject I was not familiar with and we spent one weekend a month working on a philanthropic projects. If you have no interest, then no one will harass you about it. So why, in turn, do you harass those of us that did join?
I am the first to admit that I don't really keep in touch with my the guys anymore, but I wouldn't change the decision I made.

Because potato that's why you have to harassed about it. :D I had tons of buddies in frats and wanted me to join. I was to focused on sports and my career path to join though. And in no way would a fraternity have eloped me get the job I have today. Just to answer that question. I have nothing against frats so carry on. :D

Frats are important to people in college and people who are stuck in college after graduating and never move on.

After that, maybe you made a friend in there that helps you network a bit, or is a groomsman at your wedding or something.

Frankly, I never saw the value in the dues and still don't. Just reeks of continuing the high school clique social strata. I'd advise you to save your money and focus on developing life skills that are effective and useful no matter what social organizations you're in.

x2, I just recently landed a job for when I graduate in May, and I can assure you the interviewers did not care at all that I was a GDI or whatever you guys call me:rolleyes: In fact I'd like to think they saw that as a plus since I wasn't wasting all my time with that and instead gaining engineering experience with work and other extra curricular activities like SAE events.

    Just sayin...

I'm in a fraternity, and I've never done or had to do any one of those things to get into my fraternity, nor have I done any of those things period.

I definitely respect people's decision to either join or refrain from joining a fraternity. Some fraternities on campus rub me the wrong way and make me wanna run the other direction for that matter. I definitely did not want to join a fraternity my freshman year but after a year of seeing my friends rush PKT and seeing how much REAL fun they were having I thought I'd give it a shot, man that was one of the best decisions of my life.

But props to anyone who stands by what they believe in and doesn't do one thing or another just to fit in or be accepted by others.
