I may be wrong, so correct me if so, but if you have a 4 leaf pack (including the flat leaf) it's a tow package.

A 3 leaf pack indicates it's not a tow package.

    ... True?

No, leaf packs are all 3 unless you have the Toyota tsb leafs (4 leaf pack).

    Not true

2012-13 Sport and SR5 trucks come with the 4 leaf pack as have all Canadian trucks since 2007

^^^This^^^^ Just give the parts counter guy your VIN number he can print off a vehicle inquiry report. I did and it told me everything my truck was built with, including if it was fleet or non fleet.

+1, easy for dealer to do. The one I deal with runs specs and puts it on a laminated printout. Looks nice but I like to keep the window sticker and these are rather large and hard to fold. If buying from individual hopefully they have it or try calling Toyota.

When I was looking and pricing out a certain model almost every dealer told me if you get a TRD package 99% of the time its going to have the towing package.

I have seen that correlation myself. I expect that we was referring to 6 cylinder models.

Very informative posts! I'm looking at picking up my first Taco and have found one I like. It has a trailer hitch and I wonder if it has the factory option or dealer installed. I ran the vin using an on-line vin decoder and it didn't mention a tow package, but I wonder if the decoder gave me all the data. The dealer hasn't advertised the towing aspect either. When I went to look at the truck I didn't know all the things to look for, but I did know a few. I took pics and compiled them below. Appears to me that it's a factory package from what I can see, but again the VIN search made no mention. What do you guys think?

    Too few to list.
In CA, I have not seen a TRD without the towing package but I know they don't always come with it.

Came used with brush guard, winch and bed cover.
I don't know about the 2nd Gen, but my 2002 manual says that if the connector from the cooling fan to the engine is green, it has the towing package, but if it's orange, it does not. Mine is orange, even though the dealer advertised it as having a tow package.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.

please forgive me for this silly question!

I purchased a 2015 sr5 v6 Tacoma with trailer hitch and trailer harness - again this is a silly question but with all that in mind is that considered the “towing Package”? It all looks factory.. does the towing package add any benefits under the hood and is there an official way to know or not if this is the factory tow package?

    Thanks... I feel stupid here

Easiest way to tell if you have the factory tow package is to look for the engine oil cooler. Round can below the oil filter with 2 heater hose sized hoses attached to it. If you have an automatic, it would also have the factory transmission oil cooler.

I would bet it does. I have the same set up from the factory. Just pop the hood and look for the little trans cooler in the bottom right of the radiator. This pic is from another member.

Thanks for the info guys. I always thought I had a aftermarket setup (ripoff) from Larry H Miller but turns out it's a real Toyota towing option. Who makes the big red oil filter?

See I have a pick shaft , and the 27F battery, but I dont have the tranny / oil cooler, or the 7 pin connector.
