Today yielded a productive day on the tacoma.

Did the Deck Plate Mod. Got the deck plate at West Marine. Black RTV at auto part store, and 3/4" #8 self-drilling/self-tapping screws at Home Depot.

In truck. (Yes, I know I need a new washer fluid reservoir.)

Next up was the simple Power Outlet Mod. Which enables you to have power at the outlets without the key turned. Really nice for when you're trying to charge your phone and not in the truck.

Had some male connectors and wire laying around
    IMG_3875_zpsddd1e0fa_695d1b9fde5cdb64c8b2b4d5532c6773071ffd27.jpg

Pulled the fuse, and placed it in the spot above the power outlet, where there wasn't anything drawing power to keep as a spare. Placed the two male connectors in, and tested it out, phone charging and key in my pocket.

My power steering pump was whining louder then it should, and humming when turning at low speeds. So I took the reservoir off, and the screen/filter on the bottom was clogged. So I took some brake cleaner and spray it all up and cleaned it up. Reinstalled the reservoir, filled with ATF, and buttoned everything up. Plan on doing a flush sometime this week, and then posting pics of the screen clean and flush since a search revealed a lot of people with the problem, but not many with solutions and pics.

Hoping tomorrow I'll be able to change the fluid in the transmission, transfer case, and front/rear diffs. Then have new brakes coming this week, and will be changing those out along with bleeding and refilling the system with new fluid.

Nice! I think I'm gonna order up a deck plate soon. So did you seal the inside of the airbox to make it air tight rather then sealing from the outside?

I have the 2.7, so I have a ribbed air box. So I glob'd a lot of RTV in the ribs to fill the space, then put a bead all around the outside of the hole on the air box that was covered by the 1" lip on the deck plate, then a bead around the lip that sits inside the airbox. Then after I shoved it in, there were two spots that weren't as close as I'd like, so I put some RTV in those spots as well. In the pic you quoted,
you can see a bit of RTV that was pushed through when I tightened it all up. I cleaned off the excess before it dried.

I wanted to keep the amount of RTV on the inside of the box minimal. I feel it's as airtight as could be, but if you think about it, there is a 4" hole right there, so a tiny spot that might, just might, not be airtight isn't going to matter. Maybe, just maybe water will get in there if I submerged the truck up to the air box, but if I was in that deep, I'd be eff'd anyway.

i think i would have fiberglass the edges of the deckplate instead of using RTV imho

I think you're right... Supposed to use the blue RTV so it doesn't screw up the MAF sensor.

I think this is correct. But I saw a video and the guy said just as long as you let the sealant dry for at least 24 hours before installing back into the truck because the fumes is what screws with the MAF sensor.

You are suppose to use sensor-safe RTV.

If you zoom in on the pic that has the Black RTV still in the package, the last bullet in the blue section says, "Sensor-safe". I read other's write-ups and they also used black RTV.

Got a troubleshooting question for you guys. Never had a problem until recently, but I can't get the 4wd auto hubs to engage unless I'm stopped. WTF?
