Looking for input on a lift. Pics would be cool with size of lift

I am thinking I want to do a 6" pro comp or fab tech. Tire size I am thinking is a 33" .

If its just for looks a 3 inch would be more affordable. I like my 3 inch lifted up a bit but still practical. The 6 inch looks sweet but I can't see spending that kind of money just for looks.

I haven't lifted it yet. I stopped by a local shop to see what they offered, and they were big fans of the BDS drop bracket kit. I'd like to do some offroading for me, so I can't justify $1700+ for that kit when the only thing I get out of it are larger tires. I'm looking for a coil-over with either AAL or complete new leaf springs.

I went with the 6 procomp. It works great in my opinion and when I air down the bfg ATs I can get anywhere I want.
I will be upgrading the shocks soon though
I have pics on my profile.
If I know what I do now I would probably do some research on OME kits. Different options different prices.

Well its a slow work in progress, I bought the truck used with the Revtek 3 inch lift on it with the preload spacer in front and the lift block set up in the rear. I'm not a fan of that lift but for about $300 its a good deal, I have put new rear leafs from Toytec.com. I went with the old man emu springs and it raised it quite a bit, I didn't like the rear lower than the front. I put Bilsteins front and rear, Total Chaos Upper Control arms on the front to get alignment back to spec. I chose OME 885's in the front with adjustible billies.

I got 285 70 17s which I believe are about a 32.8 inch tire. I did the B.A.M.F Cab mount chop so the tires wouldn't rub.

    Thanks,

    Brett

Lots of good info in the suspension section too. I've been spending a lot of time there. Now that my lift is on its way, I'll be in the wheel and tire section :D

so in doing all of this reading it appears that if you go with any sort of 3" lift you will also need to do the UCA's along with it to help with alignment..
also with these kits u can usually retain your factory wheels..

weather it is a spacer or full coil spring replacement..

but if you go with a drop bracket type kit. IE BDS 4" or 6" you do not need to do the UCA's or LCA's to achieve the proper alignment..
with these kits you will need to purchase new wheels with proper back spacing or us wheel spacers..

    are these correct assumptions??

off road has a locker, progressive coils, and ATRAC, where the sport and SR5 are the same truck, but the sport has different seats, color matched stuff, and a skewp.

Personally, if you are going just for looks, I would not go with a 6 inch lift. Even with the 3 inch lift, my fuel economy on the road is a lot worse than people with non- lifted trucks.

That said, I have a 3" Revtec spacer lift in the front, no UCA swap, and AAL in the back. I have 295/70/17 tires on. The CV boots have been replaced once with this set up (was covered under warranty though) The ride on the road is great though. Even my mom thinks it rides well when I let her borrow it. However, if I go over a bump with my wheels at full lock, I do rub. I also rub when my wheel wells fill with ice. I don't wheel my truck hard or as much as I would like to; most of my driving is on the road so I want to keep my set up practical for on-road driving. When the shocks wear out, I will probably go with an OME lift for increased functionality off road.

I get a lot of comments on my truck (from friends and random strangers) on the lift and how good it looks. So if you are going for looks, I would not steer you away from a set up like mine. My experience with this set up has been good. However, there are other great options out there and my set up has plenty of draw backs.

Check my build if you want to look at some pictures of the truck. (I have plenty on there ;))

Just remember, it wont always be for looks.
You will eventually take it out and enjoy it so much youll continue and might have to make changes so do it sooner than later to save cost and effort.
