Fox coilover leaking

Hello folks, I know this is my first post and I show up with my hat in my hand asking for input but please excuse my rudeness.

I bought an 02 Taco with Fox coilovers and the driver's side is leaking some oil from the seals... I think. The passenger side has leaked some in the past but it doesn't appear that it has leaked in a while. My question is, how big of a deal is it to rebuild these as I have never owned a set of coilovers. Is it possible to install standard struts (OE) while I have these rebuilt or am I stuck with running coilovers now?

Welcome! Rebuilding the coilovers isn't terrible and not overly expensive. Check youtube for videos of rebuilding these. Also check out Downsouth Motorsports, they are vendors on this website and know their stuff on suspension. They could sell you the parts to do the rebuild yourself or do the work for you.

There's no reason you couldn't go back to an OEM shock/coil.

Would I need to change anything out as far as control arms, etc to install a standard shock while I get these rebuilt or would they just bolt up?

 

OEM shocks/coils should bolt right up. I'm not overly familiar with 1st Gens but, from your picture, I don't see anything that would prevent you from going back to stock. I'm not sure if you could use the Fox coils with OEM shocks (someone more familiar with 1st Gens might know for sure if they're compatible) but there's no reason OEM shocks and coils couldn't be bolted up.

 

Thanks again Pugga, I'll give Downsouth a call and see what kind of turnaround they have on rebuilding these. This is my daily, so I can't keep it down too long.

 

If you get the rebuild kit, there's no reason you can't get them off the truck, rebuilt and remounted in under a day.

 

from the looks of it, no other aftermarket parts are bolted on, only the Fox bit. OE should bolt right on!

It's easy to do yourself, before you pull them contact DSM, fox, or polyperformance and get oil/seals. You can do it under one day if you have easy access to nitrogen or whatever they use. If you want someone to do it for you stock coils will bolt right on. I had to bolt stock coils back up to take my sway aways to get filled.

Ive rebuilt these before, wayy easier to do than any other shock out there.
