Wood Shift Knobs in the Making

**Meant to post this in 2gen general forum, if a mod could please move it! **

My great-uncle is a wood turner, and the thought occurred to me last week that a hand turned shift knob could look quite nice on the truck. We are still experimenting with shapes and sizes but thought i would share a few photos of the work in process. These are for an automatic, not manual. All of the wood is locally sourced from his farm, and includes holly, osage orange, cherry, persimmon, etc. He has experimented some on these with an ebony and walnut in lays as well.
Though I am not the one making them i thought folks would enjoy some photos. Mine you, none of them are "complete" yet (sanded and finished), but it gives you an idea of progress. Well update once i get a finished knob installed.

That's pretty cool. I had a similar thought a while back about making some wood trim pieces for the climate control cluster, center console, and door panels. Never got around to it though. I think with a leather interior, some wood trim could look nice in our trucks. Subbed to see how these shifter knobs come along. I'm voting for cherry, stained with cherry colored stain, and finished with poly.

 

I think wood trim like that would make it feel like a really nice king ranch edition ford, leather with wood would just look awesome.

 

Make some for manual trucks

If I had a lathe, and any kind of skill that would be needed to make anything cool, I would try this myself!

I have seen pics on here of tacos with wood grain dash kits. I think they are a stick on set bought on ebay. Not 100% sure of that though.

Yep, I have seen those kits on ebay. I've thought about getting one just to use a select few pieces.

 

Have your pieces dipped in hydrographics.





The wooden knobs are bitchen. I'm more of a stainless steel guy but those are sweet.

 

I like most products that require a true craftsman. Looks good.

I really like this idea. If I could find one that was shaped more like the OEM knob, I'd be very interested.

Damn right! Lol. Anyone who has any real sense, knows there is no feel like wood. Real wood, not.....the other wood.
