I agree with the guys above who said to grab the puppy's muzzle. I would grab it for a few seconds and stare my puppy in the eyes while telling him "No". He figured it out pretty quick. Now he's 100+ lbs and is gentle enough that he plays with toddlers and nibbles food from their hands. Sometimes I would pop him on the muzzle with only my pointer finger, and it seemed to hurt his feelings more than spanking him.

While he was very small, we would let him walk around the yard with no leash. Every time he stepped off the curb, he got a spanking. Now, he will not leave the yard unless we say it's ok. Dogs will walk by the yard and he just lays there even though my back is turned. When I accidentally throw the ball too far and it goes into the street, he stops at the curb.

My boy when I got him...

    And today at 105 lbs...

I had to do this too. Mine would jump on the cage walls until they unhooked and collapsed. When I first got him, I tried leaving him in the laundry room with nothing except the washer, dryer, and a locked cabinet, and he literally clawed through the drywall trying to enter the other room while I was at work. He didn't like closed doors.

Great looking dog. I need to introduce her to the front yard. We've been all over the back yard. Maybe well explore the front this week.

For keeping them on the curb. Do you do the training on leash? She doesnt venture far from us at the moment. Even in the back yard

    good looking pup,

in regards to crate training, and the whining, I had an ex who had a few dogs, and whenever they would go to bed at night, they could put a blanket over the crates. You could tell the difference the nights when they didn't use the blanket, they would whine/bark at night. So a blanket is something you may want to try.

    good luck

I didn't do it on a leash because he was only about 8 weeks, and he wasn't very fast. At first, he would step off the curb 5 or 6 times in a row and get a pop on the rear and a trip back to the grass, not understanding what was going on. Then he figured it out in a week or two. Dogs are usually fast learners if they are a loyal breed. You say yours wants to stick close to you, so it might work. I never liked the idea of an invisible fence or shock collar.
I wouldn't do it on a leash because leashes are associated with walks or trips. If you spank your dog for leaving the yard while on a leash, it might be confusing come walk time.

The curb training only works at our house because he knows those boundaries and spends alot of time out front. If we went to someone else's house, he would probably run into the street. If it doesn't work for your dog, you might just tether him in the front yard with one of those cables. Every dog has a different personality. Good luck.

You've gotten some good advice. What I would add is to put a shirt or blanket that smells like you in the crate, it will be comforting to him while he is in there, and give him a nyla bone to chew on instead of a rope. A nyla bone will help with his teething, without giving him anything that he can inadvertently swallow. You have to be careful with ropes, rawhides, etc..They can eat pieces that can clog up their intestines. Anytime he bites or chews on something that you don't want him too, including you, tell him no and give him what he can chew on. Adorable puppy by the way :)

She is a cutie. I'm gonna stop on the way home and pick up a nyla bone for her.

That looks like a full blooded black labrador retriever, no traces of shepherd that I can see.

That is what I was thinking too, I've been around quite a few lab pups, and I don't see anything but lab in her.....then again, some features might show up as she grows. Either way, beautiful dog

I tried crate training her today during the day. I left her in the crate for 2 hours while I was in the garage. Holy shit, this little girl can cry. For the entire 2 hours! I pull her out to pee, sit on the couch and out she goes for a nap.

Your suppose to be napping in the crate!

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Freeze damp wash cloths and give one to the Dog. The cold soothes their teething pain.

We've started to take our naps in the kennel with the door locked today. She'll fall asleep on the floor at my feet and Ill place her in the kennel. She doesn't whine, just falls asleep. Good girl
