This is what I do I pull the thing up to unlock it. I wish you could pull the handle and the pin would go up and the door would unlock and open.

Shoot, as I was waiting on the printer, I actually read through the whole question. I would be curious too if there is a simple solve. I know on my '02 I have disallowed the automatic door locks because I want to be able to get out conveniently. Sometimes though I am in parts of town where I would feel better if the doors were locked. Yeah it is an inconvenient feature for sure. Toyota ought to know better.

So if you manually lock them can you unlock it with the latch and open the door?

I can't think of any time I would drive with my doors locked. Ever. I don't care if I'm in Gary, Indiana. If you get in a crash and your truck is on fire, good luck getting pulled out very quickly when no one can open the door. Dumb, dumb, and more dumb.

Do you have power door locks? Why not just push the unlock button?

You don't seem to understand the issue. I asked a simple question. I'm looking for help not have to read you complain about why I have my doors locked. Well maybe the area isn't safe.

We understand the issue and there's not an easy fix since the lock tab isn't directly connected to the handle.

I would buy 10 breaker bars, 7 pocket knives, 4 machetes, 2 fucking pick axes, and maybe even a gun before I drive around with my doors locked.

I lock my doors when I'm in unsafe/less safe areas, and I also have a gun in the truck. Normally my doors are unlocked, though.

Bummer about the GF puke. :(

You should come to Oakland some time, I'm sure you'd be locking your doors a lot.

Watchu talking about that most cars open the lock when you pull the handle from the inside? Thats a Ford thing and if you really want that, best bet is to swap out for power locks. Ive tinkered with this shit on 79-83 p/us, 84-88, 89-95 and on my old 02. It's the same mechanism as my 85 tercel...nothing really much has changed. I have a unit sitting infront me, with the rod that comes from the inner door handle, the outter door handle, and the locks. The way it's designed, you're not gonna be able to make it work like how you want.
What you could do, is do aftermarket motors that attach to the rod that goes to your lock...that motor will move the rod to lock or unlock your doors. You could put a pressure switch on the rod that goes to your inner door handle and when you open it, it'll pop your door up. ofcourse this is electronically.
Or maybe you could crimp a wire to your inner door handle rod, run it to a small pulley that'll attach the other end of your wire to your inner door lock mod. When you pull the innder handle, it'll pull the door lock up. I'd use fishing line wire crimps.

Reading several posts of yours, it appears you really arent that smart. if you can figure this out, props to you.
