I heard the Baja suspension allows the truck to drive on top of water. Is this true?

 

It actually levitates over water, please read your brochure again.

all the experienced guys here preach is valving valving valving. Here you have a decent suspension, but tuned by Bilstein and TRD and it's no good. make up your minds.

don't you think this subpar properly valved suspension will at least perform as an off-the-shelf fox/icon/king (which we know still requires the valving be fine tuned)?

For an all-stock truck, it's not a bad setup at all. The discussions were geared toward putting the Toyota Baja suspension on a non-Baja Tacoma. When you look at the cost to buy the Baja parts and compare them against Fox, King and Icon, you'll find that you can get a better suspension for the same price. All that being said, if you could find someone with a Baja edition selling their take-offs cheap, I'd certainly give them a shot!

This is also true. There are different switches in the cab to choose between top and levitate.

I measured before and after wheel hub to fender and I lost about 1/4" in the front.

 

Not a bad loss, may sag more over time. And you didnt respond to my offer to buy your baja suspension

 

Exactly the point some were trying to make. Not that you literally can't put an after market bumper on lol. Brandon acted like someone said if you put it on a Baja the truck will explode and kittens will perish. People are just saying springs may not hold up over time and would be more prone to sagging.

With everyone wanting to say how engineered and valved these shocks are by TRD I'm sure when they were designing this they weren't making the suspension around the idea it needs to hold up to aftermarket bumper weight. Where OME is saying with the upgraded springs it will specifically be able to support that weight. That's the point that was trying to be made regarding OME and bumpers.

 

Obviously if you put a bumper on a Baja kittens will perish.. puppies and kittens actually. Again remember the truck was made by God and to change anything about it is just wrong!

my question was do you think the baja perform as well or better as an untuned off-the-shelf Fox, King, and Icon becuase of the fact it was tuned professionally by Bilstein and TRD engineers.

all the suspension gurus preach tuning tuning tuning, keep revalving. We know 99% of us that go midtravel with off the shelf parts we do not revalve to dial in.

also TRD mentioned you can add the uniball UCA to bridge the gap closer to our "midtravel recipes."

 

They may have said closer but that doesn't indicate how close. And if they did say closer that means its not as good as a mid travel setup so you answered your own question?

 

So do you think if I put OME coils on my current shocks I would be a little better off? Where are the places to order that?

 

Idk the answer to your first question but toytec and DSM are good vendors

 

they were talking about travel figures when they said closer. We know 6lugs gain an inch or less with extended travel coilovers and UCA. IMO Better valving can easily offset less than 10% increase in travel.

 

I honestly have no idea how the Baja compares to an untuned higher end setup.

 

Ahh well then I'll leave that up to the suspension pros to answer because I honestly have no clue

 

thanks for being honest. i don't either that's why im asking. we need some of these baja guys to start running with MT guys.

My MT setup should be done shortly and wondering how everything stacks up. This also may help us gauge how much is left on the table with our setups by bolting them on off-the-shelf....because that's what im doing for now.

 

Perhaps someone who's mixed OME coils with Bilsteins could chime in. It would probably stiffen your ride up. Since you already have the bumper on I'd just leave it be for now and see how it holds up. Perhaps the 1/4" sag is all you'll get.
