So, how has it turned out?

Haven't pulled the trigger yet. May have to wait till after the holidays, which only means I change my mind 50 more times and do hours upon hours more research.

 

OP - What was your final gain and measurements after the HD leafs settled?

 

Even after trailering and such I'm currently sitting at 22.5" front and 24" rear. I don't remember what my original numbers were. But the rear did settle a bit making the truck look just right IMHO.

Also, the slight shudder while starting off has also, essentially, disappeared.

Hey Dave, this is exactly what I'm looking for, an inch or 1.5 of lift and minimal ride change. For this job, did you just need a spring compressor to swap the oem coils on to the new shocks? Or did you use a local shop for the swap? If so, what did they charge?

I'm tempted just to buy eibach or emu coils just to avoid the hassle of swapping springs, but it seems stupid to buy another set of coils when I think mine are fine..

I was told that if you have a TRD, then you may want to change the springs, but if you have a Sport, the OEM springs are quite good. Since I have a Sport, I kept the OEM springs. I think the TRD is progressively wound and the Sport is a straight rate spring. But it's been a while since I thought about it, so I could be wrong.

I did the rear myself. No big deal, but had a shop do the front, then do the front-end alignment after the front shocks were installed. I paid $100 plus a bottle of Glen Fiddich whiskey to have the front shocks and springs installed, with a front end alignment.

Did you have to TSB spring w/ the three leaf pack and the overload?

 

Yes, I had the TSB spring with the overload. Then I added the progressive AAL from wheelers and kept the overload. Is that what you needed to know?

Exactly what I was looking for. You helped me make up my mind.

 

Wheels are different than stock 16"alloy Tacoma wheels. FJ TRD wheels are actually 16x7.5 with 5mm more offset moving them away from control arms (outward). Stock is 16x7.0 and sit closer to control arms.

How do I know, my truck is identical in appearance to yours. Same color and same exact wheels. However I run 275 70 16 BFG ATkos. Those are the stock size for a Land Cruiser.

 

I have the TRD Off-road and just looking to level the front but I tow a trailer with 3 4wheelers and one in the bed. So I am thinking about the HD AAL to help with the weight. I plan to do 5100 all around but don't want that big of a lift and don't want a rake. Thanks for any info.

 

I do lots and lots and lots of towing. I think my setup works great.

Debating exactly what you did or add 1/4" spacers up front on each side for a lil more lift

 

I read so many horror stories about spacers, and since the OEM shocks are rubbish, I figured why not. Good shocks make a world a difference in how the truck handles, not just in how it looks.

yeah, but 1/4" ones aren't bad, I wouldn't get any bigger. I don't offroad much

 

Were those hub to fender measurements?
