^ This. I live in Philly and two separate co-workers were recently looking for used cars for their kids and they ran across several cars flooded in Jersey by Hurricane Sandy a few months back. Apparently the used car lots in this area are "flooded" with Sandy cars. It happens more than one would think.

    Um no.

One dunk or a few days dunk in the ocean is not equal to corrosion failure of the frame at this level.

Corrosion etc impact on computer and mechanical systems due to flooded vehicles? YES.

The OP's truck, that's me, has a clear chain of custody & locale.

You mentioned being the 2nd owner... didn't know if you were aware of the history or not. Most 2nd owners don't.

I hope they're comping you with a loaner or rental or something. That's ridiculous.

I haven't been keeping up with this thread . But a friend of mine is a tech at a toyota dealer here in MA . He said they have been doing frame on 05+ tacoma's for the last year or so . He told me to bring mine in if I find any rust/rot .
Hope you get it figured out op

they pulled our loaner on 26 Dec. so we are SOL on that front.

positive things are happening otherwise, I will post updates as things take place.

This is the first that we have heard of any 05+ 2nd gen tacomas getting frame replacements.

I find your friend a bit hard to believe but hope it is true.

Toyota previously has or is currently replacing frames on the 1st gen tacomas, tundras, sequoia under recall.

The only way dealers would likely replace a frame is if they are rusting through IE (a hole or large soft spot) under the 60 month corrosion warranty. The corrosion warranty is only stated to coversheet metal so that is even a stretch. Pretty much would need a rust through in 3 years which is difficult for bare metal in general.

Please clarify the conditions these frames were replaced under.

I have a friend who is a tech as well and he stated they are likely dragging their feet on the OP's vehicle due to the fact that it was bought recently and are trying to claim the rust issue.

It is not the case in this scenario but people were buying up 1st gen trucks in the effort to gain money on the situation. So toyota placed a disclaimer on the 1st gen recall trucks, you had to own the vehicle for a certain amount of time to be eligeable for the truck buy back program.

+1...if mine develops this issue and toyota wont fix it
ll raise as much hell as i can at the toyota dealer then get a ford....frame maintenance is not "routine" maintenance that the customer should have to worry about

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
...... Much worse than what OP has .... try crossmember under the engine completely eaten away.
Toyota has very little leg to stand on when it comes to New England. They know they are screwed here so they had been replacing frames on multiple vehicles. Everything from Tacoma, 4runner to Sequoia Tundra

How can they not be putting some type of coating on their frames from the factory? You would think they have learned this by now after spending millions fixing and replacing the older ones.

Do you think my new 2013 is still vulnerable to this? I got rid of my 01 double cab after about 5 years after I saw the underside going to hell. That was before any issues were really known.

I thought for sure this would be a resolved issue. I understand in 05 they may not have the full grasp yet, but the newer trucks SURELY have to be better, right? OR wishful thinking and glad I got a lease.....LOL

I stand corrected and have no problems stating it. That is some nasty rot.

My 06 is pretty close to the way that truck looks just no holes yet. I cannot see any of the factory so called paint left on my truck anymore.

My truck has lived its life in southern wisconsin and Chicagoland IL.

let's think positively here and assume that a frame replacement is going to happen at some point this year:

Are there any components that one would want checked / replaced that would not be a part of the normal frame swap procedure?
