I was getting really bad gas mileage putting normal gas in my truck, like less then 10 mpg. Im now putting premium in my truck and im getting like 14 mpg or so. But i wanted to know if putting premium in my truck is gonna effect the engine in anyway (badly)??

I actually somehow get better mpg when I tow my jet skis. Go figure.

I have come to the conclusion that you have to drive normal with these trucks. If you drive too slow, or too fast, your mpg is gonna suffer.

i noticed no considerable difference between regular and premium driving on hilly highway.

premium is better for your truck, if anything. less pinging

Overlooking the fact that there are about ten million "premium or regular" threads, how do you only get 10 mpg's? There's gotta be something wrong somewhere, or you are calculating things wrong or something. How many miles to you get before you light turns on? At 10 mpg's you'd only get maybe 180 or 200 miles before your fill light comes on.

When the 4.0L first came out Toyota said premium fuel only for a year. Maybe they realized regular swill won't kill it after the fact.

True though, it does run a lot smoother and more consistent on premium. I get better mileage with it too, but it's no 40%, more like in the neighborhood of 5%.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I run it all the time, better power and mpg. Wouldnt go back to regular ever again.

Same. Everybody has different factors involved but for me, the ticking noises seemed to disappear and in general felt like it ran a little smoother.

How do you only get 200? I'm pissed when I don't get more than 300 and there are times when I can get 340 before the light. That's all on plain 87 octane 10% ethanol.

I'm guessing that the premium gas in the tanks of most gas stations is pretty old since prices are so high. I would rather have "fresh" 87 than old 94

So if I only get 20 MPG on regular I'll get 24 with high test? Sorry the science just is't there. Did 2000 miles last summer towing a camper high test one way reg. the other zero difference except in the amount of money in my pocket. Didn't run one damn bit better do better on fuel or have more power and if you hear it "ping" you had better have a look at your knock sensor.

I owned a 2005 4.0 liter, (the first year of that motor in a Tacoma) and it was labeled for 87 octane, regular gas. The FJ Cruiser and/or the the 4Runner got the recommendation for Premium gas, with the same 4.0 motor... no explanation why, that I can recall.
