I bought my 2013 Tacoma, PreRunner, SR5 a little over a month ago and have put in about 1,300 miles in it. My only concern is that when I start the truck, reverse and then turn the wheel to put into drive, I hear a small pop sound, almost as if it is coming from the driver side rear tire. Is this normal, have any of your experienced this? It is not loud, and if I have music playing, I won't hear it, however I know it is there. Is there exhaust build up that stays until the next start?

Any ideas or words of wisdom would help.

    Thanks.

OME 3" lift with 885 coils. OME Shocks with TSB 1.5 AAL. 285/75/16 KM2s. XD Hoss 16" wheels. DDM Tuning 6000K HIDs, H10 6000K Fogs. BHLM. Debaged. 20% tint on front windows.
Could be either 1 or 2 common things with our trucks:

    1. While backing out of a driveway, you hear something that sounds like a clunk while applying the breaks.

    2. While backing out of a drive way or anywhere you cut the wheel to the left or right and hear A poping sound.
That popping sound is the steering stop on the spindle meeting the LCA steering stop

Both of what I mentioned above is just an characteristic of the truck...

Well, I will rule out #1, in the fact that, the driveway to my house is inclined. So when I am reversing, I am already pressing the brake. When I am on the street, and turning the wheel to straighten out to move forward and press the gas is when I hear the small and low pop sound. So it may be #2 as you described. Like I said, i am slowly getting used to it and I have not overreacted and taken it to the dealership. I was assuming as you just stated it may be characteristic of the truck. However, I am surprised as I have never heard this sound from any of the previously vehicles I owned. It happens when I reverse at an, then angle out to move forward and accelerate... Any other possibilities?

    Thanks

Are you turning on a angle (causing the rear to flex at different times)?

My 2013 does something similar except mine sounds like its coming from the right rear. Mine happens sometimes when I back up, stop and then put it in D. I was thinking it might be the brake shoes hanging up.

    Is it still happening?

My Tacoma now has 1,700 miles and still happens.

I am reversing at an angle, when coming down from my inclined driveway, so I can be straight on the road. I then turn the wheel opposite way, put into drive and then hear the popping noise when I accelerate.

    any answers ?

we bought it used ~6 months ago, we've just been ignoring it. as far as i know it's stayed about the same volume and only happens when she pulls into off-camber driveways

Well I am descending in the mornings from my driveway , i don't see any threads where others have had this same problem. I am just kind of startled by it. Maybe I should learn to ignore it aswell.

Yes it is still happening. If it isn't the brake shoes, it possibly could be the RR shackle. No idea why they would make a popping sound, but the sound is definitely coming from that area of the truck. Maybe I will put my gopro back there and see if I can record it happening.
