Help with mini d2s and xb led halo

So I'm about to install my retrofit kit soon and have a few questions, this will be on my 2012 Tacoma.
1: how do you guys mount the xb led halo to the shroud? I have Apollo shroud.
2: what is needed to be done for me to run the halo as dtrl in replacement of the turn signal?

Don't.

The flashing of the turn signal will destroy the CCFLs.

Just run them to a switched power source that comes on with the ignition.

Ahh... Then it can be wired parallel with the stock 3157 lamps.

 

Being led do you think there would be any problems?

 

As long as they are designed to handle the heat from the projectors, should be no problems.
The flashing won't be a problem for LEDs, nor will using them as DRLs... they'll last longer than CCFL.

 

Depends on what size halo you have and if it fits on the inside or the outside. I mounted my Halo's inside the Gatling gun shroud with a few dabs of JB Quick on the back of the halo ring to the sides of the shroud.

 

Thanks for fast response guys. What I meant was I would like the halos to be on all the time as dtrl while the stock dtrl off and any use as turn signal.
WYOTAC, I have 90mm led and wanting to mount them outside the shroud, so just have to glue it somehow?

 

I think glueing would be the best bet... just be sure to use some sort of high temp stuff and be sure to let it fully cure (couple days) before you seal the headlights back up. I've heard of others actually poking small holes and tying it into place with a small fishing line though. sounded like too much work to me

 

Yeah the instruction on TRS said to poke holes and tie but I also feel like its too much work.
Mine is like this and I have no idea how to hide the halo wires when install. Any thoughts?

 

umm... I'm not entirely sure. It looks like your contacts are out on a tab. Mine were soldered at a "T" to the back of the ring. How does it sit on there if you pull the wires around the projector through the inside of the shroud?

 

Yeah looks like I need to drill a hole to hide the wires behind the shroud, then use silicon to mount the halo, since its LED it wouldn't melt the silicon according to TRS.

 

Any resolution? I just got my projectors and halos yesterday and I have the same problem. I too was thinking of drilling a small hole at the bottom of the shroud, cut the wire to fit into the hole and then splice back together.

I also want to run them as DTRL instead of my turn signals. I thought the best way to do this would be to do the stealth mode mod and use a SPDT switch in the cab to have turn signals as DTRL's or off or halos on, then tap into the keyed power for the DTRL to run a relay to power the halos, does that make sense? What was your solution?

 

Yeah drill a hole on the bottom of the shroud for the wire then run it through the reflector, no drilling. As to running them as dtrl, I use Quick splices (thanks to Datsik), for the dtrl, stay away fro the green wires on both side, black wire from halo go to the black and white wire(middle), red goes to yellow for driver side, and blue for passenger side.

Got this last night, went pretty easy.

Does this disable your turn signal lights as DTRL or are they on together? The halos said to run the power from a relay source, does this matter?

It will not disable dtrl, however if your dtrl is set up as turn signal, then it will blink with your stock turn signal, so not recommended for CCFL angel eyes, LED is OK. I'll post pic of mine in a bit but moisture got in my light in snowy weather while driving so gotta redo this weekend.

 

I was thinking about this last night as I want independent control of the halos and I don't necessarily was them on with the stock DTRL and I don't want them as turn signals either. Since my truck came with DTRL I was going to do the stealth mode mod, so I can manually disable them and keep them as turn signals. Then I was going to power a relay with the power wire for the headlights and hook up the halos to the 87a terminal (normally closed), that way the halos will automatically go off when my head lights come on.
