calling the collective tw wisdom

So I found this thing.in the woods. Not sure what it is. My first thought was old aluminum liquor still. But when I went to pick it up I realized it is stainless. All the other regular steel has rusted and began to rot around this but its still good. Maybe an old water heater because it has two copper pipes comin from the top and a drain spout on the bottom? But there were no other house items. Just this and some rotted steel and a few bricks for the base. Any ideas?

 

Any burn marks on the bottom?? Im going for old personal still..

 

Stainless or gavanized?
Had a WELL tank that looked similar. Could be a very old type.
Well water holding tank--STILL is a possibility!!!!

 

With those two rust spots--it was originally a WELL WATER TANK-Sure of it. Its second use with the two pipes on the top==do not know.

East TN here!! Thats how i knew it was a well water tank.
Pretty sure it is gavanized--by the color-and no rust.

 

It's not a well water tank. It was 50 yards from the river

 

maybe river water but not well.

how do you tell the difference between galvanized and stainless?

oh and it has something inside it that rattles around like a spray paint can does if that helps at all.

 

oh those two rust spots are actually two steel plates bolted to it, almost like mounting brackets or somethin. underneath is shiny like the rest

yeah i figured. im just gonna scrap it anyways. just was curious as to its origins because an old still woulda been cooler than some random water container

 

magnet sticks to galvanized steel, not to stainless.

 

looks like a diaphragm tank for a well. also known as a pressure tank

 

If that's a port to pressurize with air on the back, pressure tank it is.

 

Old style well water pressure tank-I had one exactly like that one.the two pipes on top are for its second use=do not know what that was.
Inside rattle could be the float switch.
