I sprayed my chrome tacoma emblems with Pectra racing window finish (same stuff i used to tint my tails) and they actually came out knight chrome..... now i dont know how well it will stick, but that did the trick.

Its where the chrome is has a VERY thin layer of black (like watered down paint that they put on the chrome) and the chrome bleed through

I had a Ford EXP back in the early 80's that had factory "black chrome" trim. It looked awesome. Got lots of compliments about it. I'm surprised it never really caught on.

Not seen anything in a spray other than a candy color. In powdercoating it's called Translucent Black. The tinting thing might be a good alternative. The hardest thing will be to get an even coating so it doens't look blotchy. Very easy to screw up with translucents or candy colors.

Head to the salvage yard to get a scrap headlight of anysort that you can use to experiment with. .02

What would you use for the "translucent" black?

Do you have to get it at a auto shop/store

^^ Isn't this the same thing as the FJ TRD wheels referred to as "anthracite"?

Not seen it in a spray before, just powdercoat. Never head of a candy black either, so the spray tint might just do what you are looking for. I can kinda see it doing it....but it might end up being a little brownish...not sure.

Like I suggested, get a can of the spray tint and an old headlight reflector and try it. You might have stumbled upon a new mod. Of course you'll have to come up with some catchy name for it.
