My rear driver's side door won't open from the inside any thoughts ?

As the thread title states , my rear driver's side door will not open from the inside , the exterior door handle still works

Any insight ?

EDIT : Pretty sure it's not the child lock as the passenger side door works correctly

EDITTED EDIT : Actually I'm an idiot and it was the child lock , shows my level of intelligence lol

 

Does the inside handle just flop in the breeze like something came unhooked? Another thing (I haven't checked on mine) but does the Tacoma have a child lock? It was a little switch on the jamp of the door itself in pact cars but it prevented the door from being opened from the inside.

I haven't torn apart the rear doors yet but the front doors uses a cable from the handle to the lock mechanism and that's what opens the door. There is a separate pole-like mechanism that opens the door from the outside handle, completely separate so it's definitely possible to have one work and the other not. The cable could be stripped or pulled out at either side.

 

I would check for child locks as well

 

The handle feels like it returns to it's original position on it's own , still feels correct

I thought about locks or child locks so I tried the passenger side and it opened no problem from the inside

 

I was thinking maybe the child lock switch on the jamb was flipped.. but I thought that just controlled the lock/unlock switch...

 

check the door jamb, I dont know about the tacomas but on the hiliuxes there is a small black switch on each of the rear doors that prevents one from opening up the door from the inside.

 

FYI the clid locks should be on each back door. and the driver side could be flipped and the passenger side would still open like it should.

 

On my past cars, the driver's side and passenger side doors had separate switches for the child lock. I honestly have no idea how the child lock works on the Tacoma or if there is one. My rear passenger door power lock has been acting up for a while and it's been on my 'to do' list to fix it for a while. After I do that, I'd probably be able to give you a better idea but I haven't torn the rears apart yet, only the fronts.

Just checked it on my 2010. If the manual/mechanical switch is flipped on the door jamb in the back, the interior door handle does not work, only the outside handle.

Tried to find a pick of the switch, but didn't see a good one. It's a little switch on the door jamb and is black.

 

OK , doesn't look like it's anything to do with the locks or the child locks

If I open the passenger side door and operate the interior handle I can hear it engaging / disengaging the latch for the door , the driver's side makes no such noise

I think something is broken or has come unattatched inside

How do you get the interior door panel off ?

 

Go to taco tunes web site. Girl in a bikini shows you how to do it.

 

Remove 2screws one on handle & one behind grab bar.
Pull out.
Unclip wires to switches.
Panel off..

You need a Phillips screwdriver, don't try that Robertson bit thingy, also anything that will act as a fork. A fork with enough space between the teeth that can get around the plastic push pins. Some will most likely break. There is also a plastic sheet under the panel that is attached with a sticky black rubber. That must come off. To me it sounds like the actuator, with the metal rods attached, has either popped out of it's plastic retaining clip or the clip has broken altogether. Also there may be a 10 mm bolt holding the armrest to the metal door frame, but sometimes it is a large Phillips screw. Be mindful of the wires and the plugs they attach to.

 

All joking aside, use the fork to pry against the metal door and plastic door panel, the plastic clips the actuator rods clip into are a white plastic and break quite often. I worked in my fathers upholstery shop for years and have seen many break. The good news is they are not expensive, the bad news is they are a pain in the ass to replace if you have man hands.

I misunderstood and thought people were talking about the master lock buttons on the front doors that control the rear door locks
