Im going to order some new speakers and a headunit soon. I was just planning on getting regular speakers for my front and rear doors but I keep reading to get component speakers. I want to get them but Im going to do the install myself and Im not sure how much more difficult it will be to get the components. Is installing them pretty difficult? I don't have any experience with audio stuff so I don't want to get into something I won't be able to finish. Also can you put the component speakers in the rear doors or just the front? Thanks!

BTW I have an 05 Access Cab.

If you can install a set of speakers, you can install a set of components. It's just an extra speaker and a crossover. Nothing too difficult. MrMarv makes it even easier if you get his door baffles for your new speakers.

You CAN put components in the rear doors, but it's really not necessary. You want the better speakers up front. The rear speakers are mainly for rear fill and the not so critical. BUt, as with any system, it your ears that have to be happy.

Did you have to do any sodering or wire anything to your battery with that kit? Thats kit seems like a good buy because it has everything needed for the install.

nope, its all plug and play. I didnt use an amp(wich is recomended) so instead of running wires from that, I ran a set of new wires from the bck of my HU to the crossover, then to the speakers

Nice. I think that is what Im just going to get.

And for the rear of my truck, I should just get some regular speakers? If thats the case, should I try to stick with Image Dynamic speakers to keep consistency?

RESEARCH ONLY, I do not recommend buying anything from them, their customer service SUX, no phone number to call and emails can take days to get replys from. Not to mention the "free" install tools they send are crap, the wire crimpers are so flemsy they don't work and the socket set is cheap as well, I broke the socket wrench/screw driver on the first screw.

I went with 6.5 ID componets in the front and coaxels in the back, wireing was hassel free. I used the stock speaker wires running to the doors and just tapped into those for my cross-over which I mounted in the door. I'll try to get some pics up today. I recommend some sound deading material, I used eDead, it's cheaper than most but it seems good to me. Just doing the doors has really made a difference.

your situation was the one I was remembering...forgot who it was. Thanks for posting up.

I'd personally get the stuff from MrMarv if wasn't able to build my own baffles.

I got my stuff from *********. I agree the no phone number and what not did bug me, especially since I ordered custom tweeter mounts. THey came pretty fast so I didn't need to communicate. But when I get my sub enclosure I am going mr marv...

for the rear just go with normal speaker, not components..

"free install tools" doesnt sound like something I would be using to beging with....
the speakers are great, the baffles are nice. Ive never needed to get ahold of them so no big deal there...
BUT Mr.Marv is a local TW member and he has a very good rep. so whatever you choose good luck

    Thanks for the help everyone.

Armyballer, if you could get some pictures that would be greatly appreciated of the inside of your door. If you don't have any though don't bother taking apart your door just for pictures.

I ordered the ID 6.5 components for the front and ID 6.5 for the back to but I didn't get any deadener. I wasn't planning on getting any because I really don't have a clue how to do it. With the deadener do you have to do the whole door or can you jut do around the speaker? I really am clueless about the deadener. I also got a Pioneer headunit package thing that comes with a free HD radio tuner so Ill have to see how that works out. It was actually cheapest to get it from Crutchfield and they already shipped it out.

Installing deadener is not hard at all. Just your time, and a little patience is all you need. Nothing technical about it at all.

For the money, it is a very good addition to a sound system. Especially good deal if you get the RAMMat off this site. There is a noticeable difference even with STOCK speakers.

Check out my gallery for some deadener install pics.

I could wait and deaden the doors later right? I was just thinking about doing the speakers for now and finish it later. I guess it would be easier and more efficient to just do it all at once.

Yes, you can go back and do the doors later no problem. More efficient to do at once, sure. But if funds only allow you one step at a time...no problem.

I like where you mounted that crossover. How are you keeping it in place?

So I got my headunit today and tried to install it....

    Fail...

Im pretty sure I ruined the wiring harnesses that came with headunit and install kit from Crutchfield. I defiantly won't be doing that again.

I think tomorrow Im going to head over to best buy to get it done.
