Really?

So I took my Tacoma wheeling truely for the first time today. I climbed some hills no problem, went through some minor mud(nothing deep enough to soak into the bearings) and on the way home I discovered a new noise. Whenever I turn to the right I notice a bone-chilling screeching noise. Its like nails on a chalk board but with metal. Its only on a right turn and sounds like its coming from the drivers side front wheel area. I took it to the car wash and pressure washed the entire front suspension to get all the mud off and try to get a look at things but everything seems in place. Anybody ever have a similar problem? The front end got jarred around one time pretty good when there was a slight drop off in a shallow mudpitt. Thats the only time I could think of that something would happen...

 

Check your sway bar and make sure it isn't making contact with the coil spring. I had a similar sound after my lift was done. It probably isn't that but it never hurts to look.

 

Maybe a rock stuck in your caliper rubbing on the disk

 

We are thinkin about the same thing. Chris, by backing plate do you mean the plate behind the rotor?

MTLT, Thats only what I can hope it is. I will pull off the tire and clean everything out back there good tomorrow.


I have the worst luck with 4 wheelin... looks like I'm keepin the same pattern with this truck. I hope its just cake build up somewhere

 

I appreciate it. Thats all I'm lookin for is a startin point. Thats what my girlfriends dad thinks it might be so it'll be a good startin point.

 

*Just a small update. I just drove home and the squeaking changed from just when I turned to a constant screech. I did notice that when I applied the brakes the noise quite or was suppressed some. That seems all the more reason to think its something on/around the caliper,rotor or plate. Anybody agree with me as far as assumption goes?

 

might be weird but something to check. I had a similar problem and thought it was something with the breaks and it ended up being the heat plate thats between I thinkt he gas tank and the driveline, werid I know and you would think it was that. I thought mine was coming from the same area you are describing. My heat plate there is bent and sometimes makes contact with the driveline and makes noise, it hasnt done it in awhile thank god!
