Disable Seat Belt Alarm 2013 - Factory method DIY

I know there have been many posts on this topic. But i believe this to be worthy of its own thread as this is the legit 'factory' way of doing this without any wiring changes. This may work on other year models, but has only been confirmed on my 2013 TRD off road Taco.

First of all, the owners manual lists the seat belt alarm warning as 'customizable' indicating its possible to be normally turned off. it gives no instruction on how to do so, and presumably the dealer can do it for you. methods from earlier model years don't work.

i did not discover this solution, someone from a scion board posted these instructions which were originally from a prius. but they are confirmed working on the 2013 taco.

Step one is buy a elm327 obd reader. mine was about 20 bucks, they are all over amazon. you can also use this in the future with your smartphone if you buy a bluetooth model to do all kinds of cool things.

2nd, plug it in, power up and get a bluetooth laptop/computer something to talk to it. do a normal bluetooth connect, password is 1234. open up hyperterminal, or putty or any basic terminal program. change the com port to your bluetooth serial (mine was com40 as it told me when my bluetooth connected). Connection set to 9600/N/8/1.

Then basically just plug in the commands below, and your seatbelt alarm will be permanently off. This is basically what the dealer will do if you bring it in, although they may have some fancy tool to do it from toyota.

Enjoy, please post and let others know if this works on other years. This is likely to work on any recent toyota or Scion vehicle, but no guarantees.

 

Can you share the original link where you found the info?

 

I was able to get the dealer to turn the chime off on my 2012 for free, but someone mentioned that any time the battery's disconnected it will reset to default. So it'd be nice to be able to do this on my own if I want to do any electrical mods. Thanks for the info.

I wouldn't go entering commands to unknown address' in the control module via a terminal. Really Bad things can happen if you mistype an address or command.

No disrespect intended.

I checked this against what I know about toyota canbus (I have a 2010 yaris and
have already hacked the bejeezus out of it's electronics using a borrowed Techstream) and this info poppeye posted is solid


yes you could enable or disable something like VSC by accident doing this, but the header listed above
07c0, is nowhere near those groups


I have access to a Techstream yes but reverse engineering it's commands and translating to OBDII is
still a lot of experimenting, and some stuff is only accessible by a Techstream....but the Prius forums
already did the hard work in this case

this instruction is setting up communication to your vehicle, but not actually sending anything to it. its telling the elm327 what part of the controller you are about to talk to.

This is your first command that actually goes to the vehicle, and its a request for information.

this is the only command being sent that changes anything. care should be taken when keying this in, but in most cases you can simply revert anything you do. I believe the command 3ba7c0 will revert your seat belt to being on again (for example).

And to be clear, i did do this on my vehicle already

 

This + a lot safer + you can get the setup for Techstream and the adapter for about 35$.

If you order on eBay from china and wait a week or two you can get for around $25. I just got mine just don't have a PC to use yet(have Mac).

I bought this unit a couple weeks ago. I'll learn how it works when I get it, but I wonder if I can provide the same instructions to this unit, even though it isnt BT. I'd imagine so, right?

I got it working

 

The fact my tool was bluetooth is almost irrelevant. bluetooth is a serial connection just like USB, and the software interaction with it through the terminal is identical.

I am looking to turn off the seatbelt chime, on a new 2014 Sequoia (on construction sites and in and out of truck).

Will this work with the sequoia and does it come with the techstream software?

Or will this one work? It says it comes with the latest techstream.
