I like the auto because my wife said "You can get a new truck only if it is automatic."

That said I like a standard transmission because of the skill it takes to use smoothly. I would rather tow heavy stuff with the auto because the torque converter eases the strain on drive components.

I learned how to do that when I was 16. Within a year (military), I was driving all kinds of vehicles with manual transmissions. After leaving the military, went on to drive large trucks for several years. Just returned from Germany, where I drove a BMW (manual transmission).

Now, I just want to get down the road with the least hassle to myself. Compared to those vehicles, the Tacoma is almost sheer luxury. I can sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride, the road, and the surroundings, without constantly fiddling with a shift lever. :yay:

when i was young i liked maunals better. they were "manly" and supposedly got better performance. after years of sitting in los angeles traffic for hours on end i switched to an automatic and i cant imagine going back to a stick.

i'm too old and comfortable to drive a stick now :(

LOL. I'm sure this isn't what you meant, but I'll go with it anyhow. You'd have to get a much bigger truck to get anything resembling a semi-automatic. Some large trucks (18-wheelers, etc) now have an automatic transmission, with the ability to override to either a semi-automatic (some shifting) or fully manual transmission. :D

Manual is more fun and you have more control. I don't think I will ever switch back to auto

I like the auto because my left knee keeps hitting my girlfriends head when shifting the stick.Regards,Tom

Nostalgia for me. It just reminds me of the good old days when most cars I owned were manuals.

That being said, I've had the automatic in my last Tacoma ('06), and it is FAR superior.

    But for now, I'm reminiscing..................................:D

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Because driving an automatic is boring. I learned to drive a 3 on the tree when I was a kid and have loved it ever since, I have an automatic Bronco, but all my primary drivers have been sticks and always will be. Having a secondary automatic is nice though, still, that thing gets 8 mpg so I don't drive it much.

Manual. When I don't have the manual dexterity and motor skills to be able to handle a manual transmission then I really should not be driving. Which explains a lot of the people you see driving on the freeway.

Manuals are for sports cars and dump trucks and for douchebags that think they are all that because they can drive them

    In a truck/suv/luxury car - auto.

In a sporty car or a jeep - manual.

Manuals are more fun but if im towing or commuting I'd rather just have the auto.

    I like both....
Manual for a car that is meant to be driven a bit aggressively or sporty. My first car was a manual and the reason I wanted to learn how to drive manual was to get it. It seems easier to pass traffic and I am more alert of my surroundings and flow of traffic when I drive manual cars.

Automatic is very nice to drive when there's heavy traffic or your legs are sore:laugh:

I prefer MT. I think only pussies drive automatic.

It is surprising to see how many people in so cal do not know how to drive a MT it is crazy.
