first off, i have no problem with what guns anyone has the more the merrier. But can you kill someone for stealing your car? just asking.

but maybe you should call the police and see if other people have reported activity. A while back there was a group of teens walking around the neighborhood and they were checking for unlocked car doors. The checked my landlords car and got caught on his home surveillence so they were "questioned" and havent been seen since.

I think you can in some states. Depends on what laws you have in your state on protecting your property.

in NY i would guess it’s a hell no.

A barking dog and/or a "beware of dog" sign can deter a lot of thuggery around the homestead.

    I would hope not. :p

Anyways, OP, putting out some motion-sensing lights would be a great idea. Does your truck have an alarm on it? I'd keep a constant eye out. Since you lot can't have guns, I don't know what to tell you there, since I was going to suggest a shotgun. :D I reckon just make sure you don't keep anything of value in the truck, though it's probably unlikely that he will come back now that he knows you have seen him. At least I would hope he doesn't come back.

Funny...I'm trying to teach my son how to drive a manual transmission. He can play Call of Duty all damn night, and work every button on his controller like it's nothing, but "It's too HARD to learn to drive and learn a manual transmission at the same time." My response was, "That's the only car you are learning on and the only car you will drive when you are 16. Learn how to drive it or walk. Makes no difference to me."

If you haven't already replaced them OP, I highly recommend going to halogen bulbs. I replaced all of my exterior lights with these a few years ago and they're bright as hell. 100w of light for 72w of power usage.

Leave a note for him if he returns... "Go ahead and steal it. I dare you." See if a little reverse psychology deters him..

It's a great idea. If you're not into blowup dolls, a stuffed pit bull would work.

Glad my dad wasn't the only one that did that. He taught me to drive on a '69 Chevy Stepside with a 3 speed on the column. He drove it to a red light on a hill, put on the parking brake, and made me get behind the wheel. He said, "Don't roll back and hit the car behind you, or you'll walk home with a sore ass." I learned real quick!

I don't know what the laws are like in Canada, but in most of the US you cannot use lethal force to protect property and even just showing a firearm to someone trying to steal your vehicle can get you a brandishing charge... Although that would be fairly unlikely to happen on your property but you never know anymore...

If an alarm going off doesn't scare him off your best bet would be to call the cops and maybe yell at him through the window, although if an alarm doesn't scare him off I wouldn't yell at him out the window unless you are armed with a firearm and ready for the possible confrontation that may happen, because at that point if the guy enters your home brandishing goes out the window because that is a direct threat of your life and lethal force is now authorized, again state laws vary, but this is the typical case for most states.
