We had a very similar experience with a GSD rescue locally. We met all the requirements, except when researching the INLAWS past vet records (since we were living with them while saving for a house at the time), they noted that the inlaws lab missed like 3 or 4 heartworm pills. The rescues house visit went really well, seemed really promising. Now, if you know her dad, he spent literally 10's of thousands of dollars on their previous Bernese Mountain Dog cause he had a bone growth disorder, and loved his dogs and spared no expense.

They denied us cause the INLAWS missed a few heartworm applications. Seems to me they make all the animals sound like they are in dire need of adoption on their website. Yet, they deny people for some really senseless reasons. We ended up adopting from a non-breed specific rescue and couldn't be happier.

Sorry didnt mean to do a thumbs down. I'm on my phone. That's what I thought he was but wasn't sure. His face looks kinda looks like my dogs! Roxy is an American and English mix. Breed name is Altman White English Bulldog. I posted a couple of pics earlier in the thread on my phone so don't know how to put more now.

Oh yeah, they can be really finicky about that stuff. When my parents were together there was no dogs in the house period and they still got plenty of love and attention being outdoor dogs. My mom just had at thing against pawprints and dog hair, loved the dogs, just loved them to be outside. Some dog breeds prefer to be outside rather than in too, our St. Bernard loved it, you couldn't coax her inside on a cold winter day even if it was 20 below, that dog loved the outdoors and the cold mainly!

This is not a mirror trick... and they cannot see each other but it is funny that they choose to lay like this. Thor on the left, Zeus on the right.

Is anyone/ does anyone know a vet on the forum??? If not, does anyone know much about panosteitis?

My 21 Month old german shepherd seems to have this but not totally sure. Shes had it on and off since about 10 months old. After activity she will limp front legs. It has switchd legs a few times. She will typically have flares after I jog with her. She needs exercise so I hate to avoid activity. Last episode was bad and lasted about 3 weeks. I took her to the vet after researching quite a bit. I told the vet I thought it was panosteitis since it had switched legs, and goes away, and since its more common in german shepherds.

The vet didn't like that I thought I knew the diagnosis. She started talking about elbow dsyplasia and I was like yea but its on and off and it switches legs! She was resistant to my diagnosis and said a laproscopic surgery would aid in diagnosis. I corrected her by saying she meant arthroscopic surgery to examine the joint. She further did not like this. I opted out of x rays as it would be over 300, shed have to have a radiologist read them and it would not change the treatment. Ended up getting NSAIDs which helped and eventually went away for several months.

Dog played at dog park a bit yesterday and ran today. She did great the entire run until the end we walked and she limped a bit. Then she didn't want to get out of the truck. I feel bad. My question is will the dog have this forever, what works for treatment, will I be able to ever exercise her, will she grow out of it? Thanks and sorry for the novel.

If your vet doesn't seem to be listening or you just aren't comfortable, find another vet.

I don't know anything about the disease you mentioned so I looked it up on the UPENN vet website. If your pup does have it, it sounds like it could last for some time or it could go away on it's own. However, the one thing I read said it shows up in dogs with no obvious signs of trauma. Whether you realize it or not, running is a form of trauma and it is possible the dog has joint issues which might explain why you see it affect both sides.

I'm not a vet but like you, I try hard to understand what it is my vet is recommending and if I'm not feeling it, I ask more questions. Riley's current vet is great. She is willing to spend the time to explain and to answer what questions I have concerning treatment. I feel more a part of the process than I did in the past.

In your vet's defense, she went to vet school and passed an exam to get to the point of practicing veterinary medicine so she probably knows a thing or two. I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss her suggestions. Anyway; if you're not comfortable, find another one.

Thank you. This is good advice. I do not plan on seeing this vet again. My dog is only painful to palpation in the humeral shaft. Never any joints. And i read that it does come spontaneously but makes me think she's just good at hiding it and high impact activities aggravate it enough to unmask a limp. I think I'm more of a skeptic than I probably should be. I didn't go to vet school but am a physician and routinely scope joints so when she tells me they can do an laparoscopic surgery for a joint for diagnostic putposes it gives me little confidence in them. Then again it's not human medicine. Either way thank you for the reply Ian.

    You're welcome.

I did ignore the comment on lapro vs arthro but you're right, it's important and would be reason enough to find another vet. There's a huge difference between a belly and a joint

Hopefully, your pup grows out of it (seems to be in later stages if you use time and "norm" for the condition at least). I can't imagine what it's like for her.
