Question regarding Billy 5100's at 1.75"

2013 Tacoma with 5100's front/rear, the truck seems level. The 2013 has the 3+1 leaves. I am wondering though, if the truck in time dips in the rear a bit, I could lower my front to 0.85, but maybe a better option is to go up a little in the rear to bring it level again to the front? I hear blocks being not the most solid approach. Would it be AAL to raise it in the rear? Then wouldnt the ride suffer as I just increased how much weight I can hold in the bed, but for daily driving it has to ride different with the stifness, right?

I just installed 5100 , set front to 1.75 with 1" rear blocks.

I love it , cant beat it for the cost.







I will go higher one day when the trucks paid off and needs new tires

 

AAL is the better choice. You can go 1.5" AAL in the rear and even go 2.5" up front, assuming you can get the alignment right (I couldn't and went back to 1.75"). 2.5" front/1.5" rear was perfect with my crappy 3 leafs though.

 

I can imagine the ride being rough set on 2.5 , its alittle harsher on 1.75 .

Is it worse going from a 1.75 to a 2.5 ?

 

Billies @ 1.75" and 2" rear block ride is much better than stock shocks. Yes an AAL will raise it as well and make the ride a little stiffer. Upgrading to the 5100's should help too.

 

I have 5100's front/rear.
Just thinking that with my 5100's in the front at 1.75" and since I have the 3+1 leaves in the rear (2013 taco) it may be that the rear sags down a bit in time? I could lower the front to 0.85 or I could slightly raise the rear to avoid the front being higher. I guess if/when that happens, I'll re-evaluate..

 

That's completely up to you if you wanna raise the rear or lower the front. My front end is 1" lower than my rear at the moment, but I like the look.

That said, get a progressive 3 leaf add a leaf.

Its rated as 1.5" of lift with factory overload removed, or 2" with overload left in place....

I've had the deaver 1.5" aal (aka toytec)......I thought it rode fine.

Then I installed the Icon progressive aal, and holy crap!
It rides sooooo much smoother its amazing....still carries a load like a champ.

Pugga has 1 also.....and iirc so does bullettoothtony

I am pretty sure pugga has it teamed with 5100 rears, and so do I.....he even has a camper shell and he says the truck rides great when loaded with tools.

I bought and carried a 100lb heavy bag, a heavy bag/speedbag stand (large heavy stand!), an olympic barbell, and 400lbs of plates.....drove about 30 miles up a large grade, very choppy road, and it NEVER bottomed out, and it rode like a dream.

I was amazed how plush it rode and i still had tons of available travel which is great with all the weight, plus me at 250, and a passenger.

Unloaded, it rides nice and smooth......the prior stock suspension, and the deaver/toytec single aal tended to hop around in the back, even over small bumps.

I didn't notice how much it hopped around until I upgraded to the icon prgressive.

Justus is correct, I have the 5100's and the Icon 3-leaf AAL with the overload installed and have been very happy with it. Even 'unloaded', I'm carrying a lot of weight in the bed since I have an ARE mid-rise shell, 3/4" plywood platform w. 2x6 cross members and some tools in the bed. It has settled some over time, not a whole lot, and still rides very nice. Off road, the setup flexes very, very well! I had a couple people comment on it while following me down a trail saying they couldn't believe how much the leafs would flex when going over whoops. I would highly recommend either going back down to .85 when your leaf pack settles or going with an AAL (basically, I'd avoid blocks). And, if you go with an AAL, the multi-leaf AALs offer a nice ride.

 

I noticed little to no difference in ride quality from 1.75 to 2.50.

 

aren't progressive rate springs used on the sport models?

 

I think for now 5100s all around w front at 1.75 and rear stock (4 leaves -- TSB) looks great!

TRD sport and the SR5 have the same Linear Coils


Only the TRD offroad has Progressive Coils (which is why they dont give as good a ride when they are preloaded )

TRD sport and TRD offroad do have the same shocks, but NOT coils.
