small plastic piece that runs off an RC servo under the handle and powered by
tapping into reverse lights, no fuse needed such low power...it can happen

but a finger wipe is the most sensible approach

Something simple like a tailgate spoiler may disturb the airflow enough to prevent dirt from settling on the lens, but I haven't tested it.

How about a NASCAR camera design, where the lens wraps around the camera and can be spun to clean it?

not me, it has never gotten so smoggy that I cannot see the surroundings
under the lines. rain and mung is more of an annoyance than showstopper

so i might swipe it or just leave it. if i have a series of rain-free days i
    will give it a wipe...

get a smaller one of these and stuff it under the handle

    electronic landing gear retract

attach a little plastic arm that covers the lens
activate when reverse light comes on, lens cover retracts

    Nowhere quickly I suspect.

A fairly insignificant problem that really doesn't need a solution.....

I am thinking about something with a push/pull solenoid (have to brainstorm). I will come up with an idea, but it may take a bit.

To those that regard this as unimportant, I could say the same about some of your mods, but I don't, because everyone has their own reasons for what they do, and I respect that. Happy modding!

I like the lick your finger and wipe method (don't be dirty!)

Honestly though I don't really get a lot of build-up on there very often and I drive a lot in the rain and dirty roads. Maybe at freeway speeds it just doesn't settle there.

Maybe a shot of compressed air over the cover?:notsure: Episcopes use compress air instead of wipers, not sure how well it would work if junk collected on the cover though.

This time of year I wipe it off before I back out of the garage. Other then a 3/8 inch wiper blade and a washer pump I guess that's it.
