You can do it! only tools really needed that you may not have is a drill press and an armor's wrench for the barrel nut.

I've got a friend with a machine shop so I guess I've got any tools I'd need. I've been wanting a custom upper for my Colt. No better time to start then now.

Can these shotguns be built as easily as a regular ak? Looks nice but I really don't want to buy one I want to build one.

Well I know you can get a Bushmaster O.R.C brand new for about $1100. from Cabela's. I've heard good things about these rifles. As far as used AR's go you'll have to get online and look around. With this assault weapons ban crap going around its hard to get a good deal on a used one. A lot of people are asking for twice what they paid for the rifle.

X2, or build an AK. My Entire AK build is costing me less than $600.

If its as simple as an AK I'd imagine they'd be fairly easy to build especially if you have experience in building guns. I'd love one of those. You could do work on a duck blind but the Feds would have a stroke if they saw you duck hunting with one of those!

In the current market $2500 for a typical AR15 is commonplace. Higher end versions that normally sell for that price are going for twice that if you can find them.

Nah! Just take your time and aquire as much knowledge as you can. Lots of great info on AR's out there just can't find much on an AK or AK 12 gauges. I'm no gunsmith by any means but I do enjoy building things myself with parts I picked out. Just don't expect to be done in a weekend with todays market. But with patience and shopping around a custom can be built for less than or the same as a store bought that is less quality.

12 gauge Shotgun like Stevens at Big5 will cost you $250 or less out the door.

.22lr rifle like Marlin 795 will cost you $225 or less at Big5 out the door. (Great for plinking and cheap on ammo)

Getting a rifle or shotgun here in California doesn't require you to have any safety certificate or firearm permit. You just need to be legal resident with no felony.

If you're getting a Handgun you will need a California Handgun Safety Certificate. This will cost you $30 or less. You can take the test at Turners or whatever sporting goods you prefer.
