Brand New Double Cab with Problem

So I picked up my new double cab Taco on Friday. Noticed a vibration through the seats an stearing wheel, at any speed above 35mph. It feels like tire out of balance. I then took it on a few farm lanes hunting thiss weekend. The front end feels a little loose over general rocks and small bumps. Is this pretty normal or is the vibration linked to the loose feeling in the front end?

Take it back to the dealer and get it fixed!!! Either that or tell them to swap you with a new one because thats BS.

 

I set the air pressure to 30 psi and torqued the lugs to 92ftlbs. I am taking it back tomarrow to have the rebalance. I hope it is just that.

 

Exactly! Brand new Tacos should be spot on. I 'm sure your dealer will take care of you. Make sure it's to your satisfaction. Test drive others if needed.

My dealer didn't take care of me. I ended up having to go to Discount Tire to get a road force test done. They failed miserably and I got them returned (partial credit with 6k miles, I drive a lot) and picked up some BFG All Terrain KO's. Much better, but any AT tire will still never be "smooth." My truck came with the Rugged Fails (TRD OR).

 

My tires were out of round from the factory and I had them road force tested which showed them way off of normal specs. I had issues with the dealership not wanting to do anything about it. If you have a tire warranty it should be good at any distributer of what ever brand you have, so if they are bad you can get them replaced at a tire shop instead of the dealer, check your paperwork. I had dunlops on mine .

Yeah, well, I am a pain in the ass. I just dropped $30K at there dealer. They WILL fix it.

 

I said the same thing, like I said... Discount Tire ended up fixing it. :/

I also literally had it back after 70mi on the ODO (that's 1 round trip for me, home that night, back the next morning).

 

Seriously, this drive me crazy, especially now days, you'd think there'd be better customer service! DT had to fix a factory mistake??? Shameless... I'd have a call into the Service Manager, GM of the dealer and Toyota Customer Service. I wouldn't stand for that! Reading stuff like this makes me

Keep in mind, that tires are NOT part of the factory deal...they are warrantied by the TIRE manufacturer. This is nothing new to car/truck warranties, it's been this way for a long time. No need to jump down Toyota's throat when it's the TIRE manufacturer's problem.

By trying to force Toyota into doing something, you are barking up the wrong tree IMO. Hence some friction with them...especially when you demand they do something that is covered by the tire manufacturer. Check out your warranty information...it's all there.


Does it suck you have to deal with this? Yep. But go about it in the right way and it'll turn out just fine. Tomorrow will come, birds will sing and all will be right in the world.

 

So just to get the right perspective, if you have 70 miles on the truck and they have bad tires on it, Toyota's not responsible for it? The wouldn't even be the middleman on assisting you? I could understand if it became a problem down the road but I would expect the truck to be 100% when purchased new. This is new to me, so this will be good info before I get all hot and heated...

Also, I know what the rules may say but many stores take care of their customer, example, Homie Depot tells you that you have to go through the manufacture warrenty but every time I've gone in with a problem (within a reasonable amount of time), explained it nicely, they've exchanged it.

I'm always intersted in how customer service is dealt with, I have over 17 years in retail, and there are polices and rules, and then execeptions to keep a customer.

Well, that didn't work. All they did was move the suspect tire from the front passanger side to the rear. I still have a shimmy in it and there is no evidence they even moved any weight. Going back Saturday. I am still concerned about the lose feeling in the front end. It is accompanied by a clunk sound when I feel it, but it only occurs on the rocks or chopy dirt.

Fact of the matter is this dude just dropped 30 grand on a BRAND NEW vehicle. It shouldn't matter what the problem is with it. The dealership should be doing backflips to remedy the problem. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

If it's a tire issue the dealership should replace all 4. If it fixes the issue then it is now on the dealership to deal with the manufacturer. This is in NO WAY the customers responsibility. If this doesn't fix the problem then they need to do everything in their power to fix the problem up to and including replacing the vehicle. The customer can walk away feeling taken care of and the dealership can figure out what the problem is on their time instead of wasting the customer's time.

There is no excuse for poor customer service.

The Dunflops are FAMOUS for developing flat spots. Mine does it consistently if parked a couple of days. Serious shimmy through the steering wheel, but not the whole truck. It smooths out after a little while though.

 

Look in your paperwork from the dealer, there should be a pamphlet on the tire warranty which is through the tire manufacturer not through the dealer. It has a lot of stipulations to qualify and they make it almost impossible to qualify.
Basically you can take it to any authorized tire dealer for whatever brand tires you have, make the complaint and have them tested, if they come back as being 'out of approved specs' ie out of round from a road force test not just a regular balance (look up Hunter Road Force Testing) then that dealer makes a claim to the manufacturer and they are replaced.

Good luck, I was as much of a pain in the ass as possible and made a scene inside the service department in front of customers...it didn't work.

I went to the Service Manager then to the General Manager and to the Regional Manager and then I went to Toyota Customer Service. I wrote complaints to the GM and 3 letters to Customer Service. I got the run around from the Dealer and Toyota for over a month, they were going to honor my complaint at first the dealer was going to pay then they changed their mind, then Toyota said they would honor it, I was even told from Toyota Customer Service that a check was in the mail and a week later I was told they decided not to honor my complaint and refused to continue to investigate my claims. Not much you can do after Toyota won't help.
